James Nicoll reports on his blog that Orson Scott Card has declared marriage equality ‘moot’ and asks for ‘tolerance’ from ‘victors’ – oh, and please don’t boycott his movie. Bleeding Cool asks whether it’s enough.

No. It’s not. Honestly, I’m shaking a little with rage. That stinking S.O.B., whose legions and allies both active and advantageous have worked throughout my entire life to make me a non-person, who has advocated that I should be illegal and in jail and worked towards that goal, whose nationally-organised well-funded partners have actively persecuted me my entire life… who’ve harassed me, who’ve sent anonymous rape and death threats, who’ve assaulted me, sent me to hospital… I’ve sidetracked career, I’ve sidelined huge chunks of my life, I’ve spent – as they used to say – blood and treasure in fighting off these bastards… and knowing full well that they’d make me a nonperson again in a heartbeat if they could…

…the most we get out of this duplicitous steaming bile is “moot”ness and a request for “tolerance” (and don’t boycott my movie)?

Seriously?

Reminds me of a caller to a radio talk show I heard. He opposed marriage equality and started his blather with, "I happen to be a Christian."

These people pull all sorts of rhetorical tricks, so it shows that their concern is not for real human beings in the real world and that they know they have good good and rational arguments for treating us as second class citizens.

Well, sure. From false equivalences to newtype blood libel, they'll try anything that they think will stick - actual empirical truth is utterly irrelevant as long as they've decided it's theologically correct. "Reject the world" and all that; bouncing empiricism off is is what that "spiritual warfare" and "spiritual armour" thing was all about. (Big movement in the late 90s and early 2000s. May still be, for all I know.)

That's why I'm never arguing with them, really, even when I seem to be; I'm arguing entirely for the gallery.

Agreed. These people have no regard for truth, so arguing with them is a moot point.

What perplexes me is those people who are not religion or only moderately so or who are some branch of pagan who are homophobic or transfobic.
