Texas judge Tena Callahan has ruled that Texas's anti-marriage laws and state constitutional amendment both violate the US Constitution's equal protection clause. This is particularly brave given that Texas judges are elected, including Judge Callahan herself, who faces an election campaign in 2010.

A while back he did a state-by-state workup figuring how long it would take for enough of the anti-marriage types to die off/become irrelevant for same-sex marriage to become legal.

She's from a safe Democratic district. I'm not saying it didn't still take some guts, but as far as re-election she's probably OK.
