Are they the people responsible for the "Pay us (utility company) $6 extra per month and we'll buy all your energy from windmills in the columbia gorge" bit? I really love that. Even if I never got the commemorative mnug or whatever it is you get when you join the program. I am sad I can't sign up for it in Olympia.

So, 5% of estimated proven worldwide reserves of oil, on paper anyway, just disappeared. Oops.

I can't help but think when I look at that energy site that it's going to be one huge finacial boondoogle and loss of money, ending up with energy that costs more than the utility.

What I can't understand is why everyone isn't pushing for nuclear power? It's cheap, clean, non-polluting, and we don't have to worry about embargo's. It would help us move away from oil and gas dependencies in a bog way too.

(Please nuke the anon one. For some reason LJ logged me out...)

If you think the environmentalists are bad now, just wait until someone builds a large scale seawater thermal unit. Greenpeace will protest it and ELF and ALF will without a doubt sabotage it. Because those things will have a far greater impact on sealife than drilling in ANWAR or a nuke plant have on their respective environments, and even if it's a 'good' effect the envirowacko's will shut it down.

Maybe we need breeder reactors, I wouldn't be surprised at all, but lets face it, nothing is cheaper, cleaner or safer than nuclear power, and unless someone figures out fusion soon (unlikely) nothing is going to be for a long time. All these 'non-polluting eco-friendly' energy idea's are just pipe dreams and will never be as cheap as oil, even when they start having to ship it in solid gold barrels.
