Okay, here's the thing that really frosts me:

Everything I've so far been shown that Roberts did (Support for 'porn' Support for 'gays') seems to be the conservative position! Yup, Supporting free speech, supporting equal rights regardless of who you sleep with, those things to me are what historically conservatives believe in. You know, less government, less government regulation, less government intrusion, less government control, keeping government out of the family, the bed room, and your sexual practices! (A -lot- of conservatives back when I worked in the party were pretty kinky people).

So I find it weird that people being labeled as 'conservatives' are complaining about this. Makes me wonder who's hijacking -that- label. I for one do not equate 'conservatives' with 'religious (insert left or right here)'. Especially as the 'relgious right' grew out of the 'christian southern democrats' which was really the 'religious left'. While the names have changed, the views really haven't much.

Well, YEAH. These aren't Goldwater conservatives we're dealing with here. Hell, I used to be a liberal Republican, back when that was possible. The whole Christian Right very deliberately and effectively hijacked the party, the Conservative name, and the cause, and I don't see a lot of effort on anybody's part within the party to take it back.

All too true! I can often make common cause with "libertarian republicans" but they seem an endangered species these days. Of course, we "libertarian democrats" don't do so hot either....
