I really appreciate suggestions people are giving! But for them to be really useful, I need more specificity, or more direct pointers so I can look up the specificity quickly. Mr. Gaeta has started the clock, and I've only got two and a half days - not enough time to read the collected works of suggested authors. ^_^

The kinds of things I've been collecting are much smaller and more specific, like this excerpted section from my "notes" file:

SjK, SjK Units
Living Dangerously
From the High Beyond
Living Dangerously
Out of the Slowness

Triskweline, Baeloresk, Samnorsk, Acquileron, Optima, Schirachene, Rondralip, Arbwyth (gas giant species language - Twirlip of the Mists), Trade24, Cherguelen, Wobblings (language of Cricketsong), Tredeschk (Low Beyond civilisation language);
High Beyond: Firetongue, Cloudmark, "Only core meaning is rendered by this translation."

You scored as Cinderella. Your alter ego is Cinderella! You often find yourself doing a lot of housework, but if you are patient, your hard work usually pays off. You are prone to losing things, so dont rush through everything.

Tidbits?

How about terming yourself "Speaker to Fen" or something from Larry Niven's Ringworld?

Another tidbit:

If you count 1984 as sf, you can include some NewSpeak: The elevator situation continues to be double-plus-un-good.

Oh, there's always that Sigourney Weaver bit from Galaxy Quest, where she has to repeat everything the computer says, because she's the communications officer, and that's her job, dammit, it's a stupid job, but it's hers!

How about fandom and languages?

You could include something in Klingon or Esperanto....

Derek still wanders around telling people to "die in flames" after he asked a guy from the Klingon Language Institute how to say it. ;)

Stop me when you're bored! ;)

Did you forget 'Grok'?

If you're going to do created langauges, then of course Tolkien was first with his elvish and dwarven and other languages (but then he was a linguist).

Don't forget all the slang in Clockwork Orange, that was pretty rich.

stranger in a strange land?

This might be a little late for you....My brain's been packed with Dr. Seuss and chapter books the last few years, so the only thing sf I can think of is "Stranger in a Strange Land" by Robert Heinlein. If you still need help with the newsletter, let me know, and I'll dig out a few passages for you by tomorrow.
