A refinement of that previous post...
Mar. 21st, 2005 08:21 amI really appreciate suggestions people are giving! But for them to be really useful, I need more specificity, or more direct pointers so I can look up the specificity quickly. Mr. Gaeta has started the clock, and I've only got two and a half days - not enough time to read the collected works of suggested authors. ^_^
The kinds of things I've been collecting are much smaller and more specific, like this excerpted section from my "notes" file:
SjK, SjK Units
Living Dangerously
From the High Beyond
Living Dangerously
Out of the Slowness
Triskweline, Baeloresk, Samnorsk, Acquileron, Optima, Schirachene, Rondralip, Arbwyth (gas giant species language - Twirlip of the Mists), Trade24, Cherguelen, Wobblings (language of Cricketsong), Tredeschk (Low Beyond civilisation language);
High Beyond: Firetongue, Cloudmark, "Only core meaning is rendered by this translation."
Net Administrator for Transceiver Windsong at Debley Down
Arbitration Arts Corporation at Firecloud Nebula [A High Beyond military[?] organization. Known age ~100 years] -- TAKEN EARLY by the Perversion
Transcendent Bafflements Trading Union at Cloud Center
Khurvark University [Claimed to be habitat-based university in the Middle Beyond]
Society for Rational Investigation [Probably a single system in Middle Beyond, 5700 light-years antispinward of Sjandra Kei]
Sandor Arbitration Intelligence at the Zoo [A known military corporation of the High Beyond. If this is a masquerade, somebody is living dangerously.]
Date: 6.37 days since Fall of Sjandra Kei
Beginning 19:40:40 Docks Time, 17/01 of Org year 52090 [128.13 days since the fall of Straumli Realm]
In other words: I need tidbits. ^_^
Here, have some quizzes:

You ARE 1337!!! Go you.
Are you a T0T4LLY 1337 D00D?

Date: 2005-03-22 01:19 am (UTC)(We're actually just about the only sizable con I know of without elevator problems, because the hotel is Large, but substantially Flat, so con events all take place on two floors, and the party wing is only three stories tall, even if it's very loooooooong. There is a tower, but we put guests up there, and _no_ programming except for a few closed publisher parties and the like.)
I can use this - thanks. ^_^

Derek still wanders around telling people to "die in flames" after he asked a guy from the Klingon Language Institute how to say it. ;)
Stop me when you're bored! ;)

Date: 2005-03-22 07:09 am (UTC)If you're going to do created langauges, then of course Tolkien was first with his elvish and dwarven and other languages (but then he was a linguist).
Don't forget all the slang in Clockwork Orange, that was pretty rich.
