I took my old Sony-in-Radio-Shack-drag CD player to Radio Shack for repair. First, the lose it for four weeks. Then, as they're about to have to give me a replacement, it reappears at the repair centre. Two weeks later, they tell me they can't fix it because they don't have the parts, and I need to come pick it up. I picked it up, and it's been SMASHED ALL TO HELL. Seriously, it looks like somebody hit it with a hammer a couple of times and then made a whole bunch of grinder marks on the case. And along the way, took a prybar to the rear panel and cracked the plastic in two places on the front panel.

There's "nothing they can do" since I can't prove it wasn't in this condition when I dropped it off.

Yes, I will be taking this up the Radio Shack chain, and then to the BBB and the state Atty. General's office, why do you ask?

Peeve2: Posting to personal instead of community by accident. Gir. AntiPeeve: Posting it twice and editing this one! Muah-ha-ha!

Peeve3: Admitting to owning anything from Radio Shack except for, oh, cables or something.

Peeve4: Radio Shack. FUCKING Radio shack. Gir.

Peeve5: Anyone who says that's a duplicate peeve. Fuck off.

You got questions, we got excuses

I have never been impressed with Radio Slack..overpriced stuff, marginal quality. I didn't realize they had a repair service-I thought they even farmed out their warranty work. There's nothing at Radio Shack I can't get somewhere else cheaper and better. Sorry to hear about your troubles with them...Scott

You should have looked him straight in the eye and said, "Don't you have a policy to write down the condition of items if they come in this badly damaged?"
If he said yes, ask for the proof on your ticket.
If he said no, call him the liar that he is.

They =know= you didn't bring it in like that, and they sure know that their repair place broke it. I'd just file a lawsuit in small claims and sue them.

(Yes I worked in an electronics store in college and we ALWAYS wrote down the condition of the item if it was in bad shape when it came in. All stores do that! I bet if you ask a Radio Shit employee at another store, they'll tell you it's policy).

Lesson learned: take good, dated photographs and notes about the condition of any object before taking it to a repair place, so you can prove it if it gets damaged.

My sympathies on the CD player.

Hmm

The only time I've dealt with RS repair is when I had a keyboard stop functioning under warranty...(On my old Model 1) It was gone for three weeks and then they "Lost it" and had to send me a replacement.

I only go to RS for parts now...and I'm just as likely to stop by professional electronics shops. (Thats professional as in shops FOR professionals as well as shops that are run in a professional manner)

I can't think of the last electronics item that I purchased from RS...I suspect it was a microphone or a speaker or something...maybe a soldering iron.

Checking back for responses..

Anna gave me an access code, I just haven't gotten up off my lazy posterior and set it up.For me, after work is do-stuff-outside time. It's still relatively warm, so I'm trying to get anything that needs to be spray-painted done. Finished the Archiecon trophies. They may not look like much, but the amount of time put into them surprised me. Mostly painting, waiting for this coat to dry, or that epoxy to set up.
I make clocks and lamps as sort of..well, functional experimentation in materials, paints and adhesives..and recycling. New electrical parts and clock drives, everything else recycled. Kinda fun.I usually give them away...Scott
