Okay, so lately...

Back from sushi dinner with
spazzkat and
risu, and here's what's going on lately:
+1: Things Getting Fixed: Stereo receiver (the hk340, so that I can work on the EICO myself - scary, 'cause it's been so long since I've worked on anything electronic; back, and working well), the old Sony-chassis CD player (not back yet), the photocopier!! (finally! Working again!), and both the kitchen and the back apartment at 5026 (massive painting). This is all stuff I've been paying other people to do, but we can kinda/sorta do that now that
annathepiper has a job again. Yay job!
+1a: I bought a new - well, a refurbished, but from manufacturer and with warranty - scanner. I finally have a decent scanner, one that doesn't take (literally!) five minutes per scan. One that has more than one scanning setting, even. It's an Epson Perfection 2450, and buying refurb made it cheap. But most importantly: it does slides. It does a good job at slides. I can't wait to start scanning the slides of my sculpture, so I can finally have good pictures of that up on the web.
+/-2: I got a Wireless Optical Pro keyboard from the Borg company store, I like it alright, but I really dislike that it needs a receiver. Stupid me knew they made a Bluetooth keyboard, so I assumed that's what all the wireless keyboards were. WRONG. But they don't make a split keyboard that's also wireless, so I'm trying this out. I like the basic keyboard and I love the wireless part. I even made little apple-logo stickers for the Windows keys, in a moment of I WANT THE RIGHT KEYCAPS DAMMIT frenzy.
+3: Anna has been buying Babylon 5 full-season packs on DVD. I'd kind of forgotten how good that show was. But it also makes me not be able to look at the prospect of a President Clark as anything but a very bad omen. ^_^
-4: Some emotional angst, may talk about behind filters. Nothing too serious at this point, though. Thankfully.
+/-5: I need a new swimsuit. What do you think of this one? It's a good time to buy - everything's on close-out.
+/-6: We still need a new house. But... maybe not as urgently. The neighbourhood uberslumlord seems to be selling all of his houses. All of them. And 5014 19th Avenue NE has just gone over to the side of the angels, too, and it's been a major problem in the last couple of years. At least two other owners of Occasional Problem Properties are also selling houses. So we're wondering: is the new noise ordinance actually scaring people? Is it scaring people that much? Because that would be brilliant.
+7: Even tho' we're still looking for a new place, I'm doing neighbourhood work again and it's even kind of fun. Writing letters, revising the welcome booklet - I kind of like writing, even if I wasn't ever good enough in fiction to sell. (I've sold a lot of non-fiction - mostly stuff for computer magazines - but I never tried to make a real living at it. Article sales did get me through my last year at Transy, tho'...)
+8: Singing some more again, finally. I've been so busy and distracted that I've hardly had time, and that's still going to be true for a while, but I've been squeezing some in anyway. I'm horribly out of practice and it shows; I've got this issue where I have this momentum against doing things that I just like to do. I need to fix that.
+/-9: I'm hoping to go back to aikido next month. I'm kind of nervous, since it's been so long, and thing I'm going to re-take the introductory class - particularly since I don't think I ever really took it the first time. I'm honestly not sure. But I could use the exercise and I liked it before, and it's only a 10-15 minute walk from my house. (And a five-minute bike ride, which I'd probably do more often except it's about to be winter and the Dark arrives Early up here, and I'm kind of afraid of biking at night. My bike has no headlight, for one thing.)
-10: No murkjam. No murkjam in the forseeable future. New group must be formed. Perhaps to be named Sekrit Hindu, which almost nobody will understand. Must contemplate. Mmmmmmmmmmm.

Date: 2003-09-16 11:00 pm (UTC)And definately go for the swimsuit. And remember, Tar-get will have some swimwear in the mid-winter timeframe (for the "spring break/cruise" season), so you can also pick up cute stuff there.

Date: 2003-09-16 11:39 pm (UTC)Not improving yet. Things may be falling into position so that they can improve. But the summer has been pretty typical for all summers, which is to say "fairly quiet and reasonably nice." It's when the student body gets back en masse that things will to go hell. The question is whether new landowners will be more responsive, and whether the city and police will actually enforce the new noise ordinance. If they don't, it'll just turn right back into the same thing.

Date: 2003-09-17 12:30 am (UTC)Is is possible for me to use the scanner too perhaps? I also have slides I've been dying to scan for years now ... and of course I have been utterly thwarted in my attempts to make the scanner I have work, at least until I have someone who is more computer savy than me tell me what I need to get/do.

Date: 2003-09-17 02:18 pm (UTC)That's a gorgeous swimsuit. I remember seeing the blue one in the catalog and saying "pity I don't actually need a new swimsuit"
I've been eyeing the B5 dvds even though we pretty much have them all on tape.
Admission: I read "no murkjam" and thought "huh, I didn't know they canned." Vaguely planning blueberry jam, myself. Maybe blueberry-apple...

Date: 2003-09-17 11:18 pm (UTC)I've been sort of halfheartedly saying "maybe they will do a box set of the whole thing" and vaguely waiting for that. If it becomes obvious that they aren't, I'm sure we will be getting the individual seasons, though.

Date: 2003-09-17 08:51 pm (UTC)And yea for no more slumlords! Especially considering I'm going to have to move back to the U District at the end of the month. To the 45th/47th block, two houses down from the Jewish/Catholic Center on the corner there.

Date: 2003-09-17 11:11 pm (UTC)And down where you are, don't expect much relief. You're beind rows of frat houses, with sanctioned loud, obnoxious parties. And the zoning is L-3 instead of SF-5000. Good luck and all, but - don't expect much relief, just because there's almost nobody down there not partying to complain.

Date: 2003-09-17 11:12 pm (UTC)So I've decided they're right. Plus, I sold something on eBay for enough that the cost of the suit is covered. DING! Ordered. ^_^
