Today is the fundamentalists' anti-gay "Day of Truth," where that "truth" boils down to, "god hates fags, and so do we." If you read this journal's Cultural Warfare Updates, you've seen some of the many plugs for it.

Cargo-cult computer repair

I just fixed my laptop's power supply using BAMBOO!

Also solder and electric tape. But the bamboo part is actually very important! For great durability! Or at least, you know, some durability.

It sticks out a bit more from the side of the powerbook than it used to, and the electrical tape is black instead of white, but it actually doesn't look all that entirely bad, even. It might even be reasonably strong. (That's where the bamboo comes in. Four toothpick-thickness lengths serving as splits to keep bends away from the repair area, secured around the broken-and-resoldered cable section and to each other with electric tape, then wrapped around on the outside with more electric tape.)

If I can find some rather large heatshrink tubing, I could probably make it look vaguely professional and everything. ^_^
