I've been sleepy all day today, but that didn't stop me from going out and playing, like y'do. I played okay, I was just glued to sheet music a lot more than usual to keep from losing track of where the hell I was at any given moment. *^_^*;

I picked a confusing weekend to pop up to Everett to try playing out at their market; I showed up, found a great honking line of tents snaking single-rank along a sidewalk for about half a mile (no, really - about half a mile) and virtually nobody there. At the far end, I found someone who was still setting up, who told me that the market didn't open until 11am, which just made matters worse until I figured out later that there are two markets there this weekend, one art market (opens 11am), one general market (opens 9am) in a different part of the marina.

So I hiked over there, and found the information booth, and they were happy to have me play as a busker until the regular band showed up, so I did! I got about an hour of playtime in, and ended up trading a lot of cards (I ran out of normal cards, even) and got some from a couple of photographers (one of whom, this guy, has a website), and a vendor who wanted me to come play at another, new market in Granite Falls, and an artist who is getting a chat show of some sort on KWRM 106.9 HD3 starting mid-September. (The link is actually to her twitter feed, which is all about her art.) Oh, I see she put up a video clip on YouTube of me playing an instrumental version of Captain Tractor's "Last Saskatchewan Pirate!" Hee! I saw her start to record so switched to a cover song instead of one of my originals. Mmmm, rights paranoid. Or something.

(I'm so bad at this. Publicity what? Isn't that good? But yay youtube!)

Anyway, the market manager said I'd be welcome back - just call first next time ^_^ - and asked whether I'd be interested in a proper pay gig there next year, to which I of course said HELLS YEAH and all that. They even have a little audience seating area and I was even playing to them from a stage tent, so that was all a lot more than I'd expected. I'll be back there again, despite the drive.

After all that, I went to Lake Forest Park Town Centre for my little hour there, and played some, and Jerry Pickard, a photographer who shot photos of me there four weeks ago, was around and gave me copies of a couple of his pictures! Big glossy prints, too, 8x10s. Here's me with my eyes closed, because my sense of timing for photographs is apparently inerrant:

And here's the other one, which is better in having eyes open (tho' in the full-size you can see that my inerrant timing actually has me mid-blink):

They're really pretty nice photos except for my timing with my eyelids. The big Irish bouzouki I'm playing there is of course Kohaku.

And that's that. How was your day?

Rock on, bouzouki player!

Great pix, and glad you keep getting such good receptions. Possibly this is indicative of you being as good as your band name (which is damn good), so go you!

This is cool. The YouTube clip is awesome, exactly what I've been wanting to see -- uncensored performance habitat! You play well. Musicians busking at marketplaces just make things...better!

Yes, that does make sense. I watched the video again, and you do come off as still a little too self-conscious when attention is being directed to you. Still, you didn't choke which is impressive. Presentation does count though, so yeah. But I think that'll get improve over time.

Me, I'm just pleased to have visuals to accompany your posts.
