May 12 - call the White House switchboard at 202-456-1111.It won't stop it, but the point is to get enough numbers run through so that Mr. Obama's administration is aware that people are watching.
Lieutenant Dan Choi is being fired because of his orientation. Lt. Choi acknowledges that he is one of tens of thousands, but we recognize him as a symbol of everything that’s wrong with this policy. A West Point grad, infantry officer, Arabic linguist, and Iraq vet – whose soldiers know he is gay, and support him – is being dismissed.
With the issue in the news, it is important to speak out NOW – not later – to make this happen.
On Tuesday, May 12, [that's today] call the White House at 202-456-1111.
Sample Script:
I’m calling to tell the president not to fire Lieutenant Dan Choi – and to keep his promise to end "Don't Ask, Don't Tell." I am a [something about you and your personal connection to this issue]. We need all the combat officers, and Arabic linguists, and for that matter, every capable servicemember we can get – to keep our military strong. No more studies; we need President Obama to tell Congress to repeal the “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” law NOW.
Call Tuesday. It’s important that we flood the switchboards NOW. With your help, we can get this law changed. We can make this happen!

Date: 2009-05-12 07:02 pm (UTC)The woman I spoke with was really nice. I gave her my name and told her I was calling to voice my opposition to a couple of things, and started with Don't Ask Don't Tell, and for the second thing I said, "And you've probably been hearing this a lot today..." And she asked, "The firing of Dan Choi?"
"Exactly."
I thought this was a very good sign. People really are calling.
I gave her a bunch of reasons why I think he and others in the same situation should be allowed to keep their jobs, and she thanked me for the comment. I hope I made a difference.

Date: 2009-05-13 05:38 pm (UTC)i sent letters to my senator (Sherrod Brown) and the Dem Rep (Mary Jo Kilroy. not really, i can never remember her last name right. but her) and to the Speaker of the house (because Pelosi *is* from northern CA...). and ad my dad do the same, and my step mom (they are both retired Air Force, my step mom was a TI which is a drill instructor in every other branch, my dad retired a Senior Master Sergeant, which is as high as one can go as an NCO without a commission or some sort of Congressional help (there are not other high ranks avaiable, really, there are just ranks-in-the-ranks, like Senior Master Sergeant Of The Air Force, which is the same rank only more...). and they also both wrote letter to the General Of The Air Force.
its just- is the calling of this still active? i mean, am i going to be calling 12 hours after everyone else stopped? that is what i am asking...
