Washington State already has a fucking DOMA. Washington State doesn't perform or recognise same-sex marriage. But that's not stopping a set of fucking haters who apparently have nothing better to do than stamp "fuck you, queers" into yet another year's legislative calendar by introducing a resolution to remind faggots how much they hate us by 1) introducing redundant legislation to make marriage extra illegal, 2) to write that into the state Constitution, and 3) to have every newspaper in the state run NO FAG MARRIAGE weekly in the run-up to any amendment vote. Fuck them, and if you support any part of it, fuck you too.

Where are these motherfuckers from? Ritzville? Srlsy, I think if they spent more time fucking (as in, horizontal) instead of worrying about who's fucking whom, the world would be a better place. If there are weekend protests, let me know. I'm sick and tired of this bovine scatology. What we need is contravening legislation that says, no, dammit, marriage is for *everyone*, and anybody that thinks otherwise needs to find a blow-up doll.

Sounds like the sort of thing you'd expect in Idaho or the deep south. Didn't the papers just run an article about WA lawmakers seeing to expand "civil union" rights? This may be someone's idea of a political counter-move.

As far as I know, a lot of washington law makers are hoping to (quietly) expand domestic partnership rights (in Washington currently we have domestic partnership registration, which covers nowhere near as many rights as civil unions). It was only instituted fairly recently -- in fact, setting up the registration system and presiding over the first day were one of the last things my Dad did at his old job. :)

In fact, we were surprised about how little retaliation there was from the far right at the time, but I think even they realized that they'd look like the bad guys for opposing legislation that allowed people to visit their loved ones dying in the hospital. After all, they don't want to look like bad guys! They're just CONCERNED. For your SOUL. And everyone else's sex life.

Well, fuck Plan C then, which was to migrate most of us to somewhere in Pierce or Whatcom county, or over in Kitsap. Dumbasses, the lot of them. Ritzville? Nahh, Omak. :(

I just don't get it. What the FUCK is wrong with these people that they feel the need to try and legislate who can fall in love with whom?

It confuses and saddens me.

Oh, dear little fishies, I KNOW one of the jackasses. I wonder how useful it would be to get a representative drunk and harangue him about gay rights, 'cause I'm pretty sure he'll come to the pub to listen to us play again.

I wish I really knew him, or I'd definitely try. This was chance acquaintanceship in a bar, and he has absolutley no reason to listen to me. I actually am trying to figure out the best strategy to chat anyway (I'll talk online about ranting, but I'd never try that and expect success) should I run into him again.

Given the opportunity, I shall try to be more convincing than "Hi, I'm glad you enjoy listening to me play music, but could you pretty please stop being a hate-filled reactionary bigot? Thanks ever so much."

Gah, here again -- I'm not sure we're reading the bill the same way. The first part is hideous. But I believe the second bit (about the newspapers) is meant to make sure that the vote on the issue is publicized.

The actual content of the publicity would appear to depend on the Secretary of State. While I don't like his managing abilities or his personal politics, Sam Reed has shown that he's willing to go against his party in the interests of keeping elections fair, and I think that following ethical guidelines already in place, any such advertisement would not be allowed to 'campaign' -- it would have to be informational without bias.
