I was sort of thinking Kahvi would be Palin without the lipstick... A reasonable likeness for a human, anyhow :D

Ah, Rayek. I knew him --

All those years ago, when the colorized books started to come out. There I was, trying in vain to wrap my little Asperger mind around the mystifications of everyday life, when I stumbled upon Book 1. The intro, with the Elves' arrival to the WoTM: it was like for the first time in my life, I read something that made sense, that I could identify with.

Speaking of hott (though maybe in another sense), I have a handy EQ-to-Kinsey Scale converter for males: K = N - 1, where N is the number of characters from the set [Cutter, Rayek, Redlance, Scouter, Skywise, Strongbow, Dart (adult)] that you find hot, and K is your Kinsey score, with the additional -1 meaning asexual.

I have a truly wonderful proof of this, but I really have to go eat lunch now before taking my girl to her guitar lesson.

Then I don't know what to tell you.

So you mean you're not tempted to play with his braids for even a little bit? But yeah, maybe he's nice rather than hot.

Good one. Of course you know my Elfquest credentials. Somewhere around here I may even have a photo of me dressed as Skywise, which makes for the tallest Wolfrider (I'm 6'3") you'll ever see. You were much closer to the correct height!

I can point to the single page that reeled me in, and drew me down a dark path that had at the end of it chairing a Worldcon. :) To this day, I have to be careful not to crack open any of my old EQ collections, lest I have a relapse of Elfquest Fanboy Syndrome. Not that I'd want to undo the initial infection, you understand...

My collections are actually in storage, but it's one of the first few pages of the second EQ collection, which means issue 6 of the original run. It's Cutter coming back to the village and the children greeting him. Something about the art and the dialog dug claws into me, and I had to buy the book, and that led to buying everything else.

I was late to the game with the comic (around issue 17, as I recall), but made up for it with fervor. Heck, I went to my first Worldcon -- 1984, Anaheim -- mainly because of the "End of the Quest" party there. And that led to a lot of other things.

Edit: Oho, I didn't realize they were publishing the original saga online. It's this page (http://www.elfquest.com/gallery/OnlineComics/OQ/OQ06/DisplayOQ06.html?page=4).

I was already hooked by the time I read this, but this sequence is one of my favorites too.

I hadn't realized until right now how much my real-life twin son and daughter resemble Suntop and Ember. They're 9½ years old now, so they're still OK with me pulling them into my lap, wrapping my arms around them and taking in their scent. Of course, if I cuddle one of them, the other is likely to pounce-glomp me from behind.

Ooh, me too! The first EQ I ever read was the second donning-starblaze, and I think this was just about the first page in it? Totally sold from that page on. <3
