So as I mentioned earlier, Leannan Sidhe had a camera rolling for part of the Valentine’s Day show, and I’ve merged that with the monophonic audio feed I got off the board, cropped things a bit, added titles, and voila! Video! I just wish I could pick the preview frame because there are lots of better ones than the one it picked. XD Despite that, enjoy:

i don't know which is you and which is she [pun intended lol] but whomever that soprano is? she has the range a quality for opera. if she's you, GO DO IT! oh, i don't mean "give up all your stuffs and run away and join the opera" - i mean, try to get into a class [i'm not, strictly speaking, opera quality. while i'm a 1st soprano, it's in my "head range" - that thing female singers aren't *supposed* to have - and is almost a falseto; if i stuck to alto, i'd be a pretty decent contralto, but i don't WANT to stick to alto, i want mezzo soprano! [the difference is in that middle place - my "break" is excusable and work-around-able for a contralto, but not a mezzo. sigh] i'm pretty sure i remember reading that singing is new to you, and the opera training will help a THOUSANDTONS with outdoor singing [especially non-miced. hell, i've fried mics, because the sound person missed cues to lower pickup levels...]

if it's your friend, she the Sidhe, and it's not too forward, maybe pass it to her?


but my FAVORITE thing about this video, is that it looks like the guitar [it IS a guitar? i can only see part of it] is being played by you/her HAIR!!! as a person with 4 and a half feet of hair, i can do nothing other than approve!!!

I'm the mandolinist in the video, not the vocalist. (It's an octave mandolin, not a guitar. I can't play guitar. Well, I can play bass guitar, but I don't know chords for normal guitar.) leannan_sidhe - the vocalist of Leannan Sidhe, with whom I was playing as a guest musician - has a lovely voice indeed.

And I don't know who told you women aren't supposed to have head voice, because that's entirely wrong. A lot of classical voice teachers discourage women from singing in chest, if anything.

my main teacher - she's the one who was insistant that i be ALTO, not soprano, because women aren't supposed to sing with "head" voice - she was the opera trainer/singer. later teachers thought it was awesome, it was just her, and i always assumed it was the opera "way", as it were? i've just been going by what she tells me - which, i grant, doesn't work as well as it used to :/

I ... don't know what she was on about, honestly. It's not opera talking, I can tell you that much. What you do want is to spend a lot of time bringing in as much of the entire air column as you can.
