Eight days and counting

Today's attempt at rehearsing the 9th consisted of nonstop medicinal teas interspersed with very short (and progressively shorter) bouts at singing separated by long recovery times; first bout, I got six minutes of my warmup routine, a short break, and the first three phrases of the 9th. Second: three minutes of routine, two phrases. Third: two exercises (probably, what, 90 seconds?) and two phrases. Fourth: no warmup, two phrases. That's all I had, so I went through the rest of the 9th voiceless this evening. (I was hoping for a fifth bout; I didn't get it.)

I am not losing this fucking gig, goddammit. I'm not.

Oh, and I did some other music stuff, mostly bodhran, and I wrote the first draft of the article that's due on Wednesday the 15th. Yay, writing.

heya, good luck with the voice stuff -- i find that it comes and goes, and coffee (for me) is the real bad culprit.

we're singing the st matthew passion in july, in vancouver [bc, not wa]. will send dates and venue when known for sure.

My singing voice has been very stable until the *#@$&(!! Martian Death Flu. Take that out and I'd be all over this thing by now.

arû, the Ashburnham Monster Crud of February didn't help me any, either, in that department. On the other hand, I surely do have some age-related vocal range decrement as compared with you (what, something on the order of a decade more or less), plus some environmental exposure to nasties like polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons and organophosphates that collectively beat the living crap out of my voice.

was always surprised to be able to get above alto range, really seriously a surprise and an unexpected bonus, but alto is where i have my strength beyond a doubt.

also worthy of a try, is full voice technique, for which plenty of online resource is available; working with that does require some unlearning / mode-shifting from 'mainstream' baroque singing methods, though. i am by no means an expert: i simply sing because it's a strong anchor to some simulacrum of sanity ^_^

again, good fortune to you; i've no doubt that once decided, you will be able to do it okay.
