This weekend? Ruled. Friday: OLOTEAS (local nondenominational neopagan group) three-day camping event kickoff day, with Tricky Pixie playing; lots of fun, both the event and the concert. Concert picoreview: I like the Tricky Pixie material, Alec's voice is rounding out nicely on the low end, I look forward to seeing the whole band at some point. (They were down one for this show.) Saturday: annathepiper Got A Raise Sushi, then the new Potter flick, which was pleasantly better than expected, which wasn't really difficult given my very low expectations, but regardless, I enjoyed it. Today: Picnic lunch, zoo trip afternoon, Great Big Sea concert in the Woodland Park Zoo's North Meadow stage with various friends and a good Canadian contingent in the audience and eventually a lot of locals blowing off the "no standing please" rule, which I hereby will claim I triggered by high-visibility bolting at the start of Mari-Mac over to the off-to-the-side improvised Vertical Motion pit. Picoreview: Real good crowd for a south-of-the-border show but I should have bolted for the pit sooner, band in good form, the new song off the forthcoming CD rawked. I sang and screamed for two hours and man my voice is tired, but much less so than it would have been before Music 137 last quarter. W00t! Also, I have bruises on my hands from all the clapping.

And finally, this Real Age Calculator says I'm 12, and that I'll live to be 104. (12.2 and 103.8. But rounding.) Yay!

I love Mari-Mac, didn't know it was a GBS number. Cool! I'm a sucker for a great drumline.

"Mari-Mac" is actually trad, but yeah, GBS does a version of it. It's one of their staples. :D

It's always fun watching them do it at shows since they always speed up with every verse, and by the end of the song they are smokin' fast.

Lucky! I've heard lots of good things about GBS's live shows. I need to pay more attention to their tour calendar.

Actually, the hands bruised from clapping so much has always been my benchmark for a really good concert.

The best place to see them - well, without going to the eastern seaboard - is Malkin Bowl, Stanley Park, Vancouver. Hie thee to Canadadadadadadadadada at first such opportunity!

I shall have to seek out such an opportunity. I've been wanting to visit Vancouver again for a while, anyhow.

If you can handle indoor concerts (my weird hearing makes them problematic for me), they're also good indoors. Canadian crowds are better, but if it's a Seattle show, there will be a sizable Canadian contingent - just look for the Newfie flags or the Maple Leaf. I wouldn't think a show farther south would be such a good idea, I think you'd get too many people who don't know the deal.

I do prefer outdoor shows. In my case, it's more social anxiety type problems and trouble dealing with crowds than hearing issues, but I feel less trapped in outdoor concerts.

I'd like to try a Canadian show actually. I liked German crowds much better than the fans at most concerts I've been to here in the States.
