"City of Kent Sells Multi-Million Dollar Naming Rights for Proposed Events Center to Global Tech Company Amiga"

"...Amiga?" Yes, that Amiga. BOOT UP YOUR A500s, KIDS, IT'S TIME TO PLAY SOME HOCKEY!

Seriously, it's like getting a news update from some alternate world where Commodore mattered. It's like hearing that Acorn Computers or Sinclair Research won the bid to provide the server core for the Vancouver Olympics. "The Amiga Center at Kent will be a launch platform for new and innovative Amiga technologies." what? "Amiga Center at Kent will have the technology in place allowing event-goers to watch instant replays on a handheld device and to order, pay for and have food delivered using only a cell phone." what? This whole thing is chock full of "what?"
T-Birds' proposed arena gets a name
Amiga purchases naming rights for venue in Kent

Just days after wrapping up the 2006-07 season, the Thunderbirds had their eyes on the start of the 2008-09 season.

That's what happens when a hockey team long frustrated with an undesirable venue is rewarded with a new arena. The T-Birds came one step closer to that realization Tuesday when the city of Kent announced that technology company Amiga had purchased the naming rights to the proposed Kent Events Center.
Confused?

CHECK!

The sad thing is, if Amiga hadn't been bought by Commodore, who ran it into the ground, we'd all be using them today instead of the IBM pc clones we have. The Amiga 1000 in 1987 was about as good as the original line of the pentiums, and the operating system was more advanced than windows 98. B5 was generated on the things!

But due to a really bad marketing department and a company that had no clue at all as to what it had, they destroyed it. Truly a shame.

Like the old easter-egg from the Amiga Kickstart 1.2 disk said (http://www.eeggs.com/items/1039.html)...

(And yes, Gods help me, I actually do recall seeing this particular easter egg in the wild, LOL :D)

"We invented the Amiga...Commodore fucked it up" :D

Oh, you do not have ANY idea just the sorts of warm fuzzies this is giving me. (The first computer I got to play around on--I mean, *really* play around on--was my (now deceased) uncle's Amiga 500. My first reaction upon being introduced to Macintoshen and PCs was that the first was *sort* of like an Amiga but lacked colour, and the latter...blergh.

I've been seriously hoping that the company and technology wouldn't die--I know there was fear of this as Motorola and IBM are no longer making PowerPC chips (yes, like the Mac, the Amiga moved from 680x0 to PowerPC) and there was talk of porting at least the newer versions of AmigaOS to Intel at some point...still, I am full of "yeeeeeeeee" at this :D

I don't know much about Amiga, but honestly I'm not sure I care very much about the name of the place I will be able to WALK TO to see major junior hockey. I might have some issues if it was a cigarette company (Marlboro Arena, for example) or some other similarly evil company...but honestly? I'd probably still get season tickets. I'll admit my flaws...
