stumbling around
Mar. 8th, 2007 09:57 pmI am so sick of this quarter. I'm very much looking forward to it being over. I'm so unmotivated it's just stupid. And I've felt tired and somewhat bletcherous all week. I did kind of enjoy the field trip to the UW botany greenhouses, though. I got to play Sumomo helping my group get to the warehouses, which I mostly only realised I was doing when we got there. So that was funny.

annathepiper brought home some of the new Washington dollars. I desperately want to unwrap them and eat the chocolate I'm convinced is inside. Desperately convinced.
I did not have this reaction to the Sacagawea dollars. Those looked like money. I don't know why this doesn't.

Traditionally, online tests would ask certain questions about your musical tastes or clothing for a stereotype, your experiences for a purity test, or deep questions for a personality test. We're turning that upside down - all the questions affect all the results, and we've got some innovative results too! Enjoy :-)

But now, there is one test to rule them all.Traditionally, online tests would ask certain questions about your musical tastes or clothing for a stereotype, your experiences for a purity test, or deep questions for a personality test. We're turning that upside down - all the questions affect all the results, and we've got some innovative results too! Date: 2007-03-09 03:10 pm (UTC)I'll be keeping an eye out for 'em. I suspect that I'll have to do my part to seed the local economy with 'em, 'cause so far, I haven't seen any of these things in the wild!

Date: 2007-03-09 07:59 pm (UTC)I like dollar coins and wish they'd just discontinue the paper dollars. I think they could generate more interest in them if they did something like the state quarters, but instead of rotating the reverse they could change the head on the obverse. The people represented would be prominent Americans who were not politicians, and mostly not known for political activity at all. Artists, musicians, scientists, maybe a civil rights hero or two. If they did this, they'd have to put enough into circulation that collectors wouldn't hoard them all and they'd stay in circulation. This country has a lot to celebrate, and we should put something other than dead presidents on our money. Oh, and to make it more popular among the public, poll Americans on their most admired non-political figures, and release the coins in order of popularity.

Date: 2007-03-09 08:55 pm (UTC)The state quarters thing I've heard referenced as partial inspiration for why they're doing the presidents thing with the coins. And while I think the neatness factor of putting other admired figures on money would be quite high, I don't know if they'd ever do that--are there any countries that put non-leader figures on their money? All the non-U.S. coins I've ever seen do that too.

Date: 2007-03-09 10:52 pm (UTC)As for where we *differed*, I was called more logical than emotional, and more traditional than rebel. No big surprise there, though I certainly do burst with emotion at times.

Date: 2007-03-10 01:07 am (UTC)We're conditioned to look for a year, E Pluribus Unum, etc. on the flat sides of coins instead of the edge - and the value is always spelled out, not in of symbols & numbers. The edge lettering isn't consistent, apparently it's 50/50 whether it's right side up or upside down when the coin's face up. And it's too pale, making it look even more like cheaply tinted foil instead of real "gold". At least the Sacajaweas were darker.
