Same-sex marriage ban rejected in Arizona in historic first

Arizona became the first state to defeat an amendment to ban same-sex marriage Tuesday, bucking a strong national trend by refusing to change its constitution to define marriage as a one-man, one-woman institution. The measure also would have forbidden civil unions and domestic partnerships.
1-7 doesn't sound good until you realise hey - you're comparing it to 0-18. And all the margins were closer. There's a step forward somewhere in those two steps back...

Date: 2006-11-08 04:43 pm (UTC)not that i disagree that a meaningful (to people's everyday lives) advance in hiv prevention and treatment wouldn't help reduce homophobia. only that the aids epidemic era is actually less homophobic than most of american history.
