It wasn't actually Nature's fault. My boss submitted the incorrect spelling, and never showed us curators the page proofs before he signed off on them for us.

It's been corrected on the Nature website, and they'll be running an erratum. The correction went through within 18 hours of my emailing the editorial staff.
