One of the things that happened in the accident is that my vocal cords got damaged in the entubation and resulting aspiration. I couldn't talk right at all for a few days even after waking up and reportedly my voice was very strange. Today, I got out notes. Only a few bars singing along with iTunes but notes. Kind of wobbly and not of the best tone but notes. That's the first time since the accident.
I'm very happy now. Today is now a good day. ^_^
Cultural Warfare Update later today, sometime after I get back from physical therapy, probably this evening.

Date: 2006-09-16 04:38 am (UTC)But I'm healing up. It feels annoyingly slow but the doctors (when I was seeing then) and the physical therapist (who I see twice a week) assure me that I am doing quite well. I hoped that I might be let out of physical therapy after this week, but they want to keep me in another week or so to do a lot of upper body work which they haven't been able to do because of my st00pid shoulder spasms. :-p I'm feeling more confident about being okay for the start of fall quarter, which is really important, and I'm going to try to work on my last (missed) Chem142 assignment some this weekend. I mentioned this elsewhere but I really do think I'm building up at least a bit of resistance to the incredibly annoying anti-seizure pills that I have to stay on until the 28th, so they aren't making me quite as stupid as they were earlier.
Anyway, it was really bad, but except for the lost muscle mass and lost endurance caused by being tied down for nine days (literally tied down - even unconscious I was apparently really annoying ^_^) I'm guessing I'm at about, oh, 80% now. So that's pretty good, given everything. (My p.t. is really happy with my endurance progression. She promised to wear me out today and did, but the big thing was I got through everything she wanted to throw at me. Ha!)
I just wish my stupid shoulder would stop hurting. It felt fine in the hospital.

Date: 2006-09-16 05:01 pm (UTC)The shoulder was something else - it hurt a bit a week ago Wednesday, hurt a _lot_ Thursday, and was the most painful thing I've ever experienced on Friday (when it spasmed, which it would do regularly) and the doctor said I should have gone to the emergency room at that level of pain. They gave me muscle relaxants and serious, serious painkillers and that was muuuuuuuch better.
Thanks for the offer of expertise, I appreciate it. ^_^ One thing I really need to do as soon as it's safe enough that people will work on me is get to a chiropractor. CRACK ME BOOOOOOOONES!
