I am so glad they moved this house instead of tearing it down. This used to happen in Seattle a lot; it's been rare for the last few decades. I've always liked that house and felt kind of sorry for it being where it is, and I recognised it immediately. Now it's going to the San Juans. Yay!

Get this, from a Faith and Freedom Network emailing last night:

The petitions for Referendum 65 were delivered to the Washington office of the Secretary of State late this afternoon. Tim Eyman announced that there were just over 105,000 signatures, falling approximately 7,000 signatures short of the needed 112,500. Based on that number, Referendum 65 will not be on the ballot in November. It was difficult for me to reconcile Tim Eyman's number with the amount of effort and hard work that I saw around the State on behalf of this Referendum.

I dunno about you, but to me, that sounds a lot like an implication of fraud.

Or, I suppose, incompetence. They were blaming the loss on him in the Times article I linked to. Muah!

Eyman fucked this up so bad that I almost wonder if he did it on purpose. But, no, he's just an ass. The good news on top of the really good news that he didn't have the signatures is that he made such an ass of himself he may have problems pushing other initiatives in the future. As long as he stayed firmly in anti-tax territory, he was able to get away with it. By crossing over into hateful bigotry, he's probably ended his influence. Or I can hope anyway.

I'm still trying to figure out why Eyeman took the job in the first place...he's got his rep for anti-tax; he must have known he'd mess that up if this initiative was anything other than a shoe-in. Did he expect it to be a cakewalk?

Apparently, yeah. It was not thought that it would be very difficult to get it on the ballot. I thought that was a strange conclusion to come to, since we beat back four anti-gay initiatives in the late 1990s, but it was the universal opinion. Now it lies in ruins. YAY!
