As as that windstorm was winding down, I went out and walked about the area and took a lot of pictures and a couple of movies. And as promised yesterday - here some of them are.

Down at the end of the block, things looked pretty normal, because of the shelter effect down there, too:

And while the lake was choppy, I couldn't really get much of a photograph of it.

But that was a bit of a lull; the wind picked back up a touch, and after I took this picture, [livejournal.com profile] spazzkat decided he'd had enough cold wind in his ears and was going to go back home. If you click on the photo, you get a movie of the wind whipping the trees around. It's pretty cool.

The sky, while not particularly dark, was just kind of strange, as if the light itself was brittle:

Strange of Light

I liked how this tree sounded, too; again, click through for the movie version, which is better:

Every Storm Report Shows This Video (Live From Newscentre Five)

Every storm report also has this video of boats rocking back and forth in the wind. It's so shaky because the wind kept knocking me around, and this was after it had gone down a bit.

There hadn't been much wind damage in our little area, the first thing I saw, really, was a sign down on Goat Trail Road, where it was much darker than usual:

Narrow Winding Road, One-Quarter Mile

(Foreboding, isn't it?)

Just down the hill a little, I started noticing tufts of branches in wires; there were several, but I liked this shot the best:

Tufts in Trees

I ran into a surprising lot of people, most of whom were walking to and from the shops, and one warned me there were branches overhead which had broken, but not fallen; walking back again today, some have been cleared, but some haven't. This one, I think, was still there:

Suspended, While Falling

This is what the road was like a lot of the time, even after people had been cleaning up. The bit in back is actually a driveway, so all those green lumps are bits of downed branches.

The bank was closed:

But I assure you, the Albertsons with the asshat manager was open:

Albertson's

Take that, Albertson's!

Take that, annoying TV in the produce section!

Of course, the LCDs at the checkout stands were still going, spewing their stupid commercials. Bastards. I guess they're connected to the registers, which have emergency backup. But still; no refrigeration for the milk, but for the televisions? You betcha!

Baskin Robbins: Nobody's Fools

I'd heard that a lightpole somewhere near Burke-Gilman was down, but I hadn't seen it; then I saw this:

Gotcha

...and knew one had to be around somewhere, if not right here. So I looked for it for a while. Unbeknownst to me at the time, my camera's batteries were failing, but we'll get to that a little further down. Meanwhile, these guys were getting ready to turn off my house's power!

Conspiracy!

...but I didn't know that at the time.

I did finally find a downed tree, which was sad:

You Shall Not Pass!

And apparently, this is home of the luckiest bird in North America:

I was taking this photo when the camera said, "HA ha, no more battery for you!" And I hadn't seen any sign of a bad utility pole yet; by that time, I had decided that they'd already repaired it. So I scraped a few pictures out of the dying batteries of the sunset from lakeside; by this time, the winds were entirely gone.

Only then did I discover the swinging wire pole; the one on the right in this picture should be vertical, and it wasn't just leaning; it was swinging, left to right, wildly far from vertical in each direction, being stopped by wires. I tried to warn joggers going by it, but they wouldn't listen to me, which seems strange; even I avoid live electric wires attached to unhinged wooden utility poles.

I got a couple of photos out of the batteries, of which this is the best:

YEEEEEEEEEEEE-HAW!

Remember, that pole on the right should be vertical. This is the movie I'm sad I didn't get; I ran from there to the nearest little store, bought overpriced batteries, and ran back, but by the time I got there...

Bothell Way

...it was too late. So I walked up the hill...

Last of Light

...and got one last good picture before home.

Larger versions of some of these pictures are on the Photography section of my arty home page what goes beep. However, if you read my LJ mostly for my photos, be warned: my photo page has spoilers. Just remember to go visit it later. ^_^
