After today, I have only one more leaf picture to post. I like it, but it's subtle. This is the last of the bright ones, and it was taken at the Lake Forest Park shops, by the bank, in December. Finding it was a big surprise.

Tooth and Tiger Claw

Yesterday, [livejournal.com profile] annathepiper and I took the 331 to Home Depot and got some wide-spectrum bulbs for the previously-useless overhead fixture in the living room. The 331 isn't a very good bus, because at best, it's every half hour, and that's just lame. Still, it goes to Home Depot, so it's much better than no bus.

Apparently there are two versions of it, though; one that's faster and does not go around Ballinger Lake, and one that's slower and does. I can't see anything on the schedule to show which is which, but the previous time I took this bus, it definitely went around that lake, and this time, it didn't. Which means that for people who live up there, the bus sucks even harder, and they get, what, bus service once an hour? That's just sad. Every 30 minutes should be the bare minimum, and most routes should be every 15, if you want to be serious about it.

Anyway, the wide-spectrum bulbs are nice. I like them on dreary days. And they don't take much power, being compact florescent. So yay!

Also in Yay! news, I have my very own anonymous crank! Yay! Okay, children, everybody point and laugh!

huh. Maybe I should turn anonymous posts back on. Anonymous cranks look like such fun!

The bus I'm about to get to my new place of work in the next town runs once an hour. But then, it does go 50 miles or so into the countryside, and there's an alternative route involving changing buses. Shame it's a monopoly run by FirstGroup (who you may have heard about regarding anti-union activity); I really, really wish I wasn't dependent on their services, but the alternative is going by train, which is also only an hourly service, and is run by Stagecoach - the owner of whom viciously campaigned against the repealing of anti-gay legislation in Scotland using techniques that could be associated with any fundie group you've ever mentioned (putting adverts on his own buses, loaded public polls...)

And I realise that was a rubbish sentence grammatically, but you get my drift.

A bus every hour? ラッキー! OK, the bus here is more frequent than that (every half hour, I think) during weekdays, but during evenings it's once an hour... except for the hour you probably want to travel, when they inexplicably miss one out. Same for weekends. If I need to take the bus rather than cycle, I usually end up walking a mile and a half to the nearest #5 stop; that's a 'quality bus route', which says worlds about the others. It runs every twenty minutes during day and usually half-hourly the rest of the time, and generally turns up on time too, so it's OK.

Our crappy bus service should be more bearable once they get all the digital positioning/route information stuff they're promising (with displays telling you when the next bus is/isn't). Until then, well, I'm glad I don't have to use it much.

Cool! That's exactly the kind of thing I really hope we will get. Because with the timetable being so theoretical for our non-quality-bus-routes... it would be much more pleasant using the bus if I could actually look at a map like that and see, oh yeah it really is coming, and leave home then. In places like London where the buses are every ten minutes anyhow you don't need it, but with crappy services like ours you really do.

It's about 2 minutes from here to the stop, but waiting there (literally for 90 minutes on one occasion, despite a supposedly hourly service at that point) is no fun at all. Waiting at home is far preferable. :)

I *wish* we had busses every half hour, it's still every hour here from 6:20am to 11:20pm. They run a combined Nicholasville / Tates Creek bus on the half hours for peak times weekdays, but I just use the Richmond Road route so that sucks.
