Hey, that thing that took out lodestone is new, and the attack vector is as yet unknown, but appears initially to be PHP-related. It's a serious botnet currently being used to launch a 6Gbps attack on a server cluster via a set of three attacks. Whatever the vulnerability is, it's common on Red Hat, and has been found on at least one (us) Debian server. If you're a linux admin, start looking for traffic headed here: 210.170.60.2 - it's a server in Japan that has been coordinating the attack.

In other news, my latest article is here, or, at least, will be eventually. (They put new issues up in segments, and this one's just out so only a few articles are actually posted. But I'm in the Table of Contents, and the print edition is out with my article in it.) I've got big text and a figure printed in the print version's ToC. Yay.

Mucked about a little more with firewall stuff this morning, but nothing you should be able to see. Aheh.

ETA: I just sent the site admin mail in no-doubt excruciatingly bad Japanese. Google's translation of it to English was actually coherent enough that you could tell what I'm talking about. I'm really curious whether I'll get anything back. ^_^

You scored as Babylon 5 (Babylon 5). The universe is erupting into war and your government picks the wrong side. How much worse could things get? It doesn't matter, because no matter what you have your friends and you'll do the right thing. In the end that will be all that matters. Now if only the Psi Cops would leave you alone.

So did I. I suspect it's all the "uh, no, the government isn't always right" feelings.

True, true. Somehow I got 89% for B5 and no higher than 60-70% for anyone else, which was a little perplexing.
