Feeling awfully lame and kind of spacy today. I saw the latest Harry Potter film down at the Cinerama, which was quite good until the final several minutes, which, if you hadn't read the book, left a couple of key plot threads utterly dangling without explanation and for no clear reason whatsoever. As such, it fails to resolve as a movie, and not in the reasonable Two Towers kind of "we'll pick this up in another year" kind of way, but in the unreasonable, "but what the fuck about this? And that? And this other thing?" kind of way. It wouldn't have taken much at all to fix it, either, so it's extra annoying that they didn't. The third movie is still the clear best, for me.

I've been working a bit on my c.v., and thinking about (tho' not doing any writing on) what I'm going to do for my statement of purpose. If anybody wants to give me some tips on how to write these, particularly upon how to write these effectively, please do.

I've also done some gardening again lately - just maintenance, but I like it. It's rather relaxing. I'm trying to start a bit of an ad-hoc leaf-mulching pile where the carrots didn't grow. Maybe it'll help for next year. And I pushed the blackberry offensive back again for another few months, yay. ^_^

And a leaf picture, taken at the same time as the previous one, while waiting at a bus stop in the Lake City neighbourhood of Seattle, probably, what, three miles away? Something like that.

Um, my CV has no statement of purpose, which is pretty telling. If I ever think of a worthwhile purpose I suppose I'll write one. Very nice leaf pictures, by the way.

My statement of purpose says something like "Purpose: write code with smart people in a group not run by gibbering morons." Well, in my dream world it does, anyway :(

Coolest leaf picture so far!

Well, if it's like ours, it's an essay in the vein of "what I want to be when I grow up." Where you're been (relevant to where you want to go), what you're interested in doing and how the program you're applying to will help you get there.

We look for generic ability to express yourself in writing, and for goals that are compatible with what we do. Make sure you know what they do and don't do and what research the people there are doing.
