There'll be politics soon. But before I forget yet again, I want to play a game called What the hell is this? and also its sequel, Can I eat it? I mean, I think the answer is "laurel," and "no," but since I like plants that produce edible fruit and you never know, this might be one, here are pictures anyway:


The shrub itself


zomg fruit!

More specifically, as you can see in this ECU, the fruit looks a lot like a larger version of duchesnea indica (sometimes called Indian mock strawberry), which is edible:

And for bonus points, it also apparently makes these things, which I don't even know what are. They were on the shrub at the same time as the berries; all these photos were taken the same evening:
