Through Sunday
Dec. 28th, 2004 01:49 pmAnd today's Sunday, and it's night and it's late but I don't feel like going to bed yet. So!
Friday: Christmas Eve Day and Even, which is the big holiday day for Anna's family. You can check Anna's livejournal for more than I'd be able to write up any time quickly; mostly of it was about the kids and the l00t, though we did give Didi and Marcus their teapot, cups, and loose tea selection, which went over fairly well. I also made up a little primer on how to make various kinds of tea - just kind of an overview for temperature and the traditional bubble-size method of determining water temperature. Easy stuff.
Saturday: Christmas Day, and we got to go over to Starfall's house and play around. Yay! We finally got to meet her boy, who is not really physically all that much my type but seems yummy anyway. We went out for halfway-decent Chinese on Southland (yay!), but did not order Peking Duck. I met all of her snakes (who are ky00t ^_^ ), got her wireless network going (making two computers, one original Nintendo, and one WAN I've fixed or helped fix this trip). She showed us Interstella 5555 as well. It's great. We had fun - I showed what little new art I have with me.
Today: Scott and Joyce and their new(-to-them) Very Cool Mid-Century Modern House (whose living room I fixed, or rather, showed them where the dimmer was and how it worked; they thought it was broken), and Brent. Scott and Joyce's house is pretty great - they're technically the third owners, but the original owners (who had it custom-built - blueprints and parts specs were included with the building) kept it until 1998; the next owners started to remodel but thankfully went bankrupt and were prevented from doing any more damage; the third owner was bankruptcy-turnover; and the fourth is them. They're undoing all the damage. (Normally, by the way, I wouldn't be saying "fortunately" and "bankruptcy" together, but they were wrecking this house, so screw 'em.) We talked about my plans for grad school; they made some suggestions about grants and how to get attention from some people, and also pointed me at someone to talk to. That was fun. The funniest part, though, was when Scott was telling me that they were going to have to take apart the light fixtures in the living room; something was wrong with them and they couldn't figure out what; there was apparently some kind of rheostat built into the fixtures in the ceiling or something. To which I said, "But what about these?" and kicked up the mini-dimmers beside the flip-style lightswitches, and ping, full brightness. La!
Scott was pretty peeved. It was pretty funny. ^_^
Anyway, then, dinner with Brent, who is still very much Brent. He's back in grad school too - in polysci - and seems to have a bit of a career path lined up. And so far, things have been fine - last quarter went well, he's set up for next quarter, he's got an area to explore from a theory standpoint. It sounds interesting, if impractical, but he seems to like it.
Hm. I keep starting and stopping this and getting distracted. I think I'll rewrite this later. Or if I don't, that's why it's so lame. La!
