[livejournal.com profile] annathepiper and I started to go out this afternoon to get a bunch of random new things - ice cube trays so we could freeze some of this chicken broth into ice bouillon, coasters, oven grips, the cheapest new fax machine we could find to replace the one that just died - and when we got into the car - tik. tik. ti-tik.

Cold snap killed the battery! Ah, well, that was our own fault anyway, it failed a test the last time we had the car looked at and we should've replaced it already. So we did, and eventually ran errands. I found a fax machine for $60, and that's not even counting the $20 rebate. And a couple of dining chairs, and most of the other things we went to get. So, rah.

And tonight I made a couple of changes to an article I wrote for a magazine and am about to try to get it over to the Powerbook so that I can send it to my editor in mail over the modem. Farking lack of net. Must remember to kill Verizon with a spork.

It's an epidemic! I should get my battery checked.

My favorite broth trick: reduce it about 4:1 and line muffin tins with foil muffin liners. Freeze quarter cups in those. Wrap tightly in more foil and store in an airtight bag. The hockey pucks reconstitute to a handy cup apiece, and you don't have to wrangle them out of the tray like you do with ice cube stock.
