Another list entry, for lack of cleverness and brilliance in thought:

+0: Moved to the "beginner" class in Aikido. This isn't actually an achievement per se' in that it doesn't mean you're any better than you were when you started; it just means that you took the first two classes and neither sensei went, "oooooooKAY!"

+1: Most of the beginner class likes me. They seem to have the idea that I might be good at this. I have reminded them that I was there for a few months before!

+2: The studio is a billion times nicer now. There's still more work to do, but it no longer looks like Class 2 Depressive Squalor, and it's somewhat better organised. I even got started a bit cleaning and reorganisation on the electric bench. (Same big room - it's rather big - but the other side of the stairwell. It's a 2/3 split studio vs. storage and electric bench. FIGHTo!)

-3: Physical therapy SUCKS. I am TOTALLY about the hating it.

-4: House a mess; must vacuum and make other cleaning noises.

+/-5: Power outage at other house turned out to be three (3) blown circuit breakers. I'm hoping it's the storm. Power gets weird in storms and surges around here are not unknown. This is a +/- instead of just a - because the first thing they did was come tell me that the breakers weren't blown. But a-hah! they were! Also good (indicative of a power surge and not a general wiring failure of some terrifying kind) is that they aren't related breakers - they aren't even all on the same pole. Plus, the renters came and told me, like they should. Good tenants. Stay!

+/-6: I've been playing with the slide scanner, with mixed results. Not bad results; I'm still figuring it out. But it does work, and pretty well, I think. It's hard to tell. The slide scanner does seem to capture some of the effect of my work that the slides catch, and that digital photography does not. So that's good, too. Nothing I can really put on the web yet, but I'm getting there.

+7: Open-source Mac OS X driver works for both my webcams, including the one that isn't listed as being supported. (Labtec, $25. W00t!) As soon as I figure out public/private key scp, I'll be able to make it all happen with magic shell scripts. Yay!

+8: The back apartment at the other house is almost ready to go. Carpet goes in tomorrow. It's still kind of bletcherous, but now it's clean and bright bletcherous, with all the holes gone from the walls and ceiling, and light fixtures rather than exposed bulbs, and three shades of paint (not counting the blue in the bathroom). It's about as good as it can get until I gut it, which I look forward to with relish, assuming we don't sell the whole place before then, which is likely.

+9: SQUEEZY FUZZY KITTY HEAD! (Kitty likes noogies. ^_^ )

+10: Had fun over at [livejournal.com profile] spazzkat's apartment last Saturday night playing Mah Jongg with him, [livejournal.com profile] annathepiper, and [livejournal.com profile] tinlail, who was learning the game for the first time. Note to self: when playing with beginners, do not use the tile set without Arabic numbers, even if it is small and cute.

-11: Did not manage to fix the outdoor studio light, despite trying. I think the fixture is bad. Cranky! Also did not sing today. Must. make. practice.

+12: mmmmm cookies mmmmm

-13: mmmmm cookies mmmmm

+14: Blustery, rainy weather is fun. As long as you're not too much out in it. ^_^

I know the feeling about cleaning being good. My house is only starting to feel like a home a little bit now that this last release is out and I can stay home some more.

Cleaning house involves renting a Bobcat..

I'm a terminal packrat, and it shows. I would have to rent a Bobcat and scoop the house out. The garage is worse. I look at it this way. It's to confuse any potential burglars.
Those people who are naturally organized amaze me.
Circuit breakers can get "hairtriggered" sometimes, and will trip at an amperage well below their rating-a storm may very well set them off. I rented a duplex with this problem-the landlord let me fix it, and I wound up with two month's free rent for about 18 dollars' worth of new circuit breakers and a couple hours time.
Cats! Got two of'em. One almost old enough to drive(she can get her permit now)..the other a 25 pound Calico.
Really nice fall weather here..Scott

We're trying to learn mahjongg. Hm, should I bring my set to the weak masq?

What I want are the Korra'ti Mah-jongg rules. They have particularly cool rules...

... which we got in turn from the Michigan State University Mah Jongg club, in the person of [livejournal.com profile] amethyst_dancer. Who told us that they are pretty close to traditional Mah Jongg. I'd be happy to run you off copies and pop them over to you in the mail or something, Sarah.

Whose rules are you using? Dara and I use the rules we got from our friend [livejournal.com profile] amethyst_dancer way back when she taught us, and she got her rules from the Michigan State University Mah Jongg club. We're given to understand that those rules are pretty close to traditional Mah Jongg.

(Mah Jongg at Weak Masq would be fun though!)

Traditional Chinese rules, taught to us by Conor's godparents' parents (would that be grandgodparents?).

Not that I could tell the diff between one set and another, I'm a complete noob at the game!
