I restarted Aikido today.

Well, there aren't any, really. I'm retaking the very beginner class because it's been, what, four years since I did this at all? (That was when I dropped in on your class when visiting a few years ago - was that three or four years ago? I think four.) Kashiwaya-sensai doesn't really teach open classes anymore; he's too busy with the national organisation, but he still lives in Seattle and still practices occasionally. I didn't recognise any of the people there, which is probably mostly because the instructor has only been there four years - having come from another school, she's got lots of experience - and most of the students were new, or fairly new.

Sitting seiso still hurts, so I'm mostly not. I do it for the formal moments, then go cross-legged for the rest of it, and that seems to be good.

I think I was kind of confusing; I mentioned that I'd done a little of this a long time ago, but I kind of remember more than I realised I remembered, which made me an awfully good beginner. But at the same time, I"d also forgotten a lot too, so that makes for a weird combination.

<giggles> When they asked how I'd heard of the dojo, I said that you'd taken me down there a while ago. I referred to you as my "ex" and didn't go into any details, mostly for fun. -_^ (I think it's funny how the { blink | what? | OH she likes girls } thought process is entirely visible in peoples' faces. Does this make me a bad person for playing with it? ^_^ }

So what we did were all the introductory things. How to sit, how to enter and exit the mat, how to sit correctly and stand correctly, some exercises, some rolls, some stretching, unbendable arm (my problem with this one is just that I tend to go, "oh, you want to move my arm? okay!" and let them) and that one leading toss that has some name but I don't remember what.

I really missed you being there, though.

i miss being there too! sounds like you had fun. i'm amused at the "she likes girls" thing. i wonder if they remember me, or for that matter if i was out to them at the time :)

i still sit seiza more for formality and agura (cross-legged) otherwise. it's that or have my feet fall asleep.

Cool! I didn't know you did Aikido! So does Greg. He's going for his black belt test later this year!

Yep, I do. ^_^

And saying I "do" Aikido, while technically true again, is vastly overstating the situation. I mean, I went for a few months and quit because it hurt my ankles (I think mostly the sitting did it; plus, my ankles have been getting better over the last few years and it's been a long time since they've gone out). And now I'm going again. I like it. I think I'll like it better once I'm into the regular classes, though - assuming I'm in good enough shape for them, anyway!
