Mundane details of daily life

lyonesse's system of numbering topics in entries with several small topics...
0: I still need to lose some weight. I've wanted to lose about six or seven pounds for a month and so far have gotten nowhere, and, well, time to stop. Mostly, I need more exercise; I've biked this winter (very proud of that!) but not enough. I did get in a lot of walking today, though, just doing errands. (All walked, no driving. I won't live in a neighbourhood that isn't walkable.)
1: I bought another tuning fork. What happened to the old tuning fork? I don't know. If I find it, it's going into the bathroom, where I will sing in the shower. Don't laugh, it's a great place to exercise your voice because of all the moisture in the air. And since my ear is also improving, I need to work on holding a better pitch.
2: I think I've got a grip on knitting and pearling now, and have figured out a couple of other things on my own which I think I'd want to do on purpose. I'll have to show
kathrynt next time I'm at her house. I also finally bought my own knitting needles, though I'm not sure I got the right kind. (If not, they're still cheap.) She was right; the wooden kind are easier for me at this point.
3: I tried out and have decided I really like the smallest Powerbook, the model with the 12" screen. The keyboard is good, for a laptop, and it's not too heavy, plus: console shell. It's like a Unix box, only with applications. I'm probably going to buy one before the big trip this summer; I'm going to want to sign in from far, far away.
4: In MechAssault, the "Elemental" isn't so much a "mech" as it is a bodysuit. What the hell is that thing doing in there, anyway? Completely useless. Even more completely useless when you're trying random new mechs in a 20-minute combat scenario. The fact that I managed to take down a sizable opponent (via Live) says very, very sad things about said opponent. (I am very bad at this game. But I think I'm getting better. The problem is that I like popcorn mechs like the Kitfox. W00T TINY DEATH FROM ABOVE! Useless, but I love 'em.)
5: Saturday Morning Cartoons went well as an event, I think. I'll probably host it again in next month. Mmmmmm fruit loops.
6: Work is proceeding at 5026, though not as quickly as I'd like. (As usual with contractors...) Everything seems to be being done correctly, though, so I can't complain about that. Yet!
7: Clearly, it's time to garden. Actually, it's a little past time. I should prune the roses in the next two days, or just not do it this year. And since they're large, well, I'd better do it. I like gardening, but with things so strange this year, it's ... just annoying, making time for anything extra.
8: New toy for Zoe: more terrifying plastic shapes! She'll be attacking them within a few days, of course. Just recently, she's started really going after some of the other recent toys, too. So all is good. She's been really cranky at people lately, though; I have to towel her to get her out of the cage, and such. But once out, she's not been to bad. Today was a Big Day Out, as she was with everybody during all of Cardcaptor Sakura and that's ten pounds of birdie fun in a five-pound bag.
9: Everybody has commentary on the war in their livejournal. I'm not. I've said a lot of things in other places and I don't particularly want to talk about it here. I do, of course, reserve the right to rant about it on a moment's notice later.
10: The Years of Rice and Salt is much better than I expected it to be. I think it's officially SF, but if it is, so far, that's kind of a joke; alternate history with fantasy in sounds more appropriate to me.
11: I think we're going with Premara Blue Cross for private health insurance. If anybody has any big reasons not to, scream now! because we really should do it soon.
Okay, I think we've determined our LD-50 of boredom on small animals; time to stop!
