Note that I answered "best world," not "real world."

Anarcho-Syndicalist - You believe that governments
and corporations are both equally evil. You
think that all people should have maximum
personal freedom. You think everyone should
have control over their economic production,
because the economy should be structured
completely in terms of cooperatives and
communes. Your historical role model is Noam
Chomsky.

Well, yes...
Date: 2003-03-17 12:59 pm (UTC)Socialist - You believe the free market can be
beneficial, but that a large and powerful state
is necessary to redistribute the wealth of the
top classes to those of the bottom. You also
think that basic utilities and trasportation
should be publicly owned. Your historical role
model is Eugene Debs.

But then I think we've had that conversation, Janne...
Date: 2003-03-17 01:21 pm (UTC)Libertarian - You believe that the main use for
government is for some people to lord it over
others at their expense. You maintain that the
government should be as small as possible, and
that civil liberties, "victimless
crimes", and gun ownership should be basic
rights. You probably are OK with capitalism.
Your historical role model is Thomas Jefferson.

'Cept I'm more paranoid about businesses than the quiz really allowed for without going all the way to anarchy. But go Noam!
Of course, in a perfect world, most of these things wouldn't be questions, now, would they? People would just do the appropriate things, and everything would just work. Too bad real people have this tendency not to act that way...
ok, this is just whacky
Date: 2003-03-17 01:36 pm (UTC)Republican - You believe that the free market will
take care of most things, but that the
government should be there with moderate
taxation to provide for national defense and
enforcing morality. Your historical role model
is Ronald Reagan.

Date: 2003-03-17 01:37 pm (UTC)Green - You believe that small economic units
should control the goods, and that the
government should be permissive of
"victimless crimes," respectful of
civil liberties and very strict towards big
business. You also believe in either a
socialist tax structure or more power to local
communities. You think that environmental
policies should be written into law. Your
historical role model is Ralph Nader.

Nice picture of Chomsky from back in the day.

Date: 2003-03-17 09:03 pm (UTC)For example, the question about drugs, prostitution, and gambling, has no options between "illegal [presumably all of them], but with minor punishments or treatment instead" and "totally legal". I actually think most of them should be legal, but part of my reasoning, is that they could be properly regulated that way! There are illegal drugs out there that can kill you, because there's no one forcing safety or quality in manufacturing. There are prostitutes who can kill you, because they can transmit diseases, and there are no regulations that they need to pass occasional health checks. And gambling has its own set of problems.
Guns -- there's another one I don't like any of the options for. I believe anyone who wants a gun, should first have to prove knowledge of gun safety. If you don't know how to use it safely, you shouldn't have one.
And the education question, doesn't begin to touch on one of my primary objections to the country's education system -- kids who slip through the cracks, and aren't allowed to go to public school. If you can't solidly prove residency in a school district (homeownership or lease), your kids can't go to school anywhere. I pay school taxes, and have no children of my own. Why can't I designate that one or two kids who have no home can use the portion of taxes I pay to go to school in my district?
Anyway, with my occasional "closest to what I'd really like to answer, but not really close at all" answers, it put me in the Green party, which is already listed here.
