Well, there y’go. Cloture passes, too many crossovers. Here’s the list of people to primary:

Chuck Schumer
John Fetterman
Kirsten Gillibrand
Maggie Hassan
Catherine Cortez Masto
Jean Shaheen
Brian Schatz
Dick Durbin

Particularly disappointed in Cortez Masto, but really, only so much, just because Schumer.

Two other crossovers were Gary Peters who is retiring, so won’t be facing a primary, and Angus King, who is NOT A DEMOCRAT, even if he causes with them. He’s an Independent, so there’s no primary opportunity available.

As far as I can tell all they got for their efforts are some meaningless votes on amendments. It’s frankly pathetic.

We did get a couple of people to change sides on this – Klobuchar and Rosen. Gary Peters, by contrast, changed his pre-vote “no” to a “yes” live on the floor. Bastard.

We did move at least two people. It’s not enough, but it’s movement. Schumer’s playing this like it’s 2005 and needs to fucking go.

That’s all I got for now – I’m not sticking around for the bullshit formalities. Have as good a weekend as can be managed under the circumstances.

Fucking quisling motherfuckers.

Back when Markey was only a 'soft no' and Warren hadn't officially said how she was voting, I called them both and left "NO! LET'S DO A NO!" messages, and so this morning I've sent them both email saying (to paraphrase) "thank you for doing the right thing in spite of the quisling branch of the Senate Democrats. Also, I encourage you to be as uncooperative as possible."

The problem with shutting the government down is Trump and Musk would be quite happy to just leave it shut down, declare whichever employees/agencies they want as being "essential", keep those open by fiat, let the rest go rot (and, of course, blame Democrats for everything that goes wrong from then on, but they were going to do that anyway).

Zero oversight and also zero ability to file lawsuits because the judiciary (the one place we've been getting any traction) gets shut down, too.

We get to dictatorship faster.

I mean, Schumer is still a stopped clock who still thinks it's 1985, sucks at messaging, and needs to go... but I think he may have inadvertently gotten this one right.
