solarbird: (shego-rule?-you?)

I’m trying to figure out how to describe what just happened. I should be going to bed but I’m still kind of reeling from this hilarity.

Okay. So. Background: There’s a fediblock hashtag on Mastodon and the Federation, people post about defederating from – blocking, basically – instances. When new fascist sites get set up, people mention it there so everyone can block them. Stuff like that.

Someone just hit that hashtag bitching about … how do I put this …

… imagine being mad about being booted from 4chan’s /b/ or /pol/ for being too big of an asshole.

Then imagine broadcasting that to instance administrators across the entire Federation.

Basically, that’s what he did.

It may be the biggest self-own I’ve ever seen. Not just for being too big of an asshole, but being too big of an asshole literally for poa.st, the or at very least one of the most blockaded instances in all the Federation. (Again, 4chan’s /b/ or /pol/ if you don’t know what that is.)

It’s breathtaking, honestly. Certainly the biggest self-own I’ve ever seen on federation. It’s … almost beautiful, really.

And it gave me another instance to suspend (block) because holy shit this guy is a piece of work xD

solarbird: (shoots kills seasons)

I made unexpectedly good bagels at home yesterday, and they were good enough to me, who is a bit of a Montréal bagels snob, that I wrote up the recipe from the original youtube directions in text.

I also added a few of my own notes.

Here’s an RTF, here’s a 300dpi PNG formatted to print on one page which also links to a previous thread with a bunch of photos and the original video. Enjoy!

Content owners are being incredible dicks with ATSC 3.0’s DRM support. (I know, it’s a shock.) And broadcasting companies have repeatedly lied about their intent, and are breaking tuners and television set functionality all over the place on ordinary over-the-air broadcasts. You know, over the publicly-owned airwaves.

It’s bad enough that LG has stopped making ATSC 3 tuners entirely.

This is obscene because ATSC 3.0 is genuinely a big improvement over ATSC 1.0 (the original standard), particularly in terms of how it handles signal dropout. It meaningfully extends effective signal range, as well as higher image quality. I care more about the signal range than anything else.

So if you care about the future of over-the-air television even a little bit, you might watch this video for background and then contact the FCC and your representatives with opinions.
