I checked in for a little while on Sunday to see Trump’s rally in Madison Square Garden.

I saw this. You should see it too. And anyone – ANYONE – you know who you’re sure isn’t an out-and-out racist should see it as well. In particular, anyone with Puerto Rican or Latino ancestry should see it, because it’s raw, naked race hatred coming from the podium.

Here are some stills, with quotes:

Speaker at MAGA rally in New York City: "There's a lot going on. I don't know if you know this but there's literally a floating island of garbage in the middle of the ocean right now. It's called Puerto Rico." He follows it later with "These Latinos, they love making babies, too. Just know that. They do. They do. There's no pulling out. They don't do that. They come inside. Just like they did to our country."

If someone supports Trump, this is what they’re supporting. This right here. Raw, naked, race hatred in the crudest form it takes without a gun.

And don’t give me any crap about him “winging it.” His material was pre-approved. They wanted him to say all this. It’s how they move their cultists further and further to the right until they can just chant the N-word at them over and over and spin them into an orgy of loathing on demand.

In contrast, here’s coverage of Harris’s plan to bring more growth and opportunity to Puerto Rico, and some notable reactions to it. This is the contrast. Race hatred versus opportunity, censorship and oppression versus progress. Sanity versus sheer, evil madness.

It’s that stark.

But that’s not all.

Trump also promised on Sunday to let anti-vaxxer and conspiracy theorist RFK Jr. “go wild” on food, medicine, and public health, too. If you know anything about that freakshow, and if you know anything about medicine, you know what kind of plague factory he will turn the United States into, and it will be horrifying, terrifying, crippling, and deadly.

Plus, of course, there’s what Trump again promised to do about climate change, which is to say, do everything in his power to make it worse, all

Tell everyone who’s not an overt racist, not a white nationalist, not a white supremacist, ask them, how can you accept this? How can you not do everything in your power to stop it? How can you support it?

Honestly, I think Harris wins, and I think Trump’s inevitable attempt to overturn the election fails.

But it’s tight, and I could be wrong.

I’m pretty sure I know a couple of quiet Trump supporters. I make sure they know how I feel about all this, but.. I’m pretty sure I know a couple who are, and who won’t admit it.

If you’re one of them, know that I know you’re sitting out there quietly, watching this go by, maybe being a little mad that I’ve been talking about this in places I haven’t been before, in places you thought were safe.

To that I say: Good. Be mad. Seethe. Because you now have the slightest, smallest hint of what I feel like all the goddamn fucking time, only without the effervescent ever-present miasma of personal threat to your life.

I want you to know something else more, though.

I want you to know that if you support this guy, you’re supporting all of this, and I know it. You are supporting making me and mine ILLEGAL, and I know that. I know you are supporting making us have to figure out how to flee our country, because we will be made illegal under a second Trump administration; he’s promised it.

More than that, you are supporting the end of public health, and you are supporting the return of plagues, and you are supporting global climate change and all the disasters which we are seeing and which we will see more and more, and which will be worse and worse.

And here, at the end, you are supporting raw, unfiltered, unmitigated, RACE HATRED.

And I know it.

And there are no excuses.

And if that’s what you choose to do, I will not forgive you. Ever.

But it’s not too late to change course. Not even now. There’s a week left. Even if you’ve given money, even if you’ve cheered him on. As long as you haven’t voted yet, you can pull back from the brink, you can change your mind, you can step away.

You do not have to do this.

I’ve tried the nice ways to persuade people. I’ve tried all the facts, I’ve tried all the persuasion. There’s none of that left. It’s all been said, and it’s race-hatred fascism vs. progress in America, 1939 all over again, and it’s all out in the open.

Choose. And choose better than you have chosen before.

Everyone else – and I mean everyone else – if you’re not out there then get out there, do the work. Have the uncomfortable conversations. Confront the people you really don’t want to confront. Bring it where it’s not “supposed to” be brought. Make the truth unavoidable.

Again: I think we win. As I’ve been saying for months – before Harris picked up her variant – if we do the work, we will win.

But if this goes wrong, and we don’t, there is no going back – and there will be no forgiveness for those who pushed us over the edge.

None.

7 days remain.
