The US government under the Bush administration specifically tortured a specifically innocent man that they specifically knew was innocent of anything in order to get a false confession. He's been granted a writ of habeas corpus - after the Obama admistration tried locking him up forever anyway on the basis of his torture-derived and knowingly false confession. They wanted him detained indefinitely, presumably as part of the torture coverup. That makes them guilty, too, because they knew how this all went down. By which I mean:
