Is the market seriously telling me traders had actually believed all the "everything is fine here" bullshit?

Apparently, it is.

Wow.

ETA: Marketwatch links to their First Take with the text, "Bailout shatters trust." If that's true and people have been believing all these pretendings and lies and now the shingles are off, then OMG we're in for a ride down now.

Ford Caves to Anti-Gay Boycott... Or Does It?
by Erik Sass, Friday, Mar 14, 2008 8:00 AM ET

THE CELEBRATIONS MAY HAVE BEEN premature.

Earlier this week, the American Family Association declared victory after a two-year boycott of Ford, which it accused of condoning homosexuality in ads and supporting organizations that want to legalize gay marriage. But Ford quickly fired back, saying there was no such agreement, and any ad cutbacks were for purely financial reasons. ...

The company says it still supports organizations that campaign for gay marriage and civil unions, including the Human Rights Campaign--one of the main objects of the AFA's ire. Volvo, a Ford company, is still listed by the HRC as a corporate donor in its "silver" category.
Here's the original content of this post:
Courtesy [livejournal.com profile] elfs, posted by him here with some details:

The AFA is claiming that Ford has agreed to its anti-gay demands, and as a result, it is halting its boycott. This is part of the fundamentalist effort to freeze queers out economically, since they've had a hard time making us non-people. (Their preferred status, of course, is for us to be inherently and automatically criminal.)

My current car is a Honda, but my previous car was a Ford. If this AFA report is true, I will not be buying another Ford, ever. I will be telling them why. I recommend that you also do not buy a Ford, and I suggest you also tell them why.
