I have thus far failed to finish reading my latest library book because it has been too depressing. To counteract that, here, you should read this webcomic. Or just the top two on this page for samplers. But starting at the most recent one and reading backwards works too.

Today we had one of those days outside that we don't like to talk about, because if people knew about them, they'd all come move here and nobody would believe the (utterly true, I note) stories about 99 days of rain anymore, or maybe just wouldn't care. So I won't belabour you with the details, other than to say god damn it was nice out, leave it at that, and distract you with another picture from January.

Lakeside, at Sunset

I've just had an article idea accepted for the magazine I've been writing for lately. This one will be short - essentially, I'm writing up a security event at the murknet from a few months ago. Really, it's kind of funny. I didn't work on it today, though - which is no big thing, I don't even have a contract yet. I worked on it some yesterday, even so. Instead, [livejournal.com profile] annathepiper and [livejournal.com profile] spazzkat and I walked down to the park at the lake and walked out to the log boom and then ate lunch and walked the long way home. That was fun, and we sat around for a while and watched dogs play with frisbees and tennis balls.

Later, I fixed the cellular blinds on the skylights, which had started doing things like dropping screws on passers-by underneath them, largely, as far as I can tell, out of spite. They're bitter, because the original installers made it so obvious that they utterly did not care. (All the screws I checked but one were straight into drywall only. It's amazing they stayed up as long as they did. I don't think the previous owners could ever have used them.) I didn't find any wood to get the screws into, so I did my best with plastic wallboard inserts and hopefully that'll work. If not, I have other solutions to try next, but for now, everything seems pretty strong.

I also got a good start on the annual serious window washing, and put up some screens, and also discovered HELLO WASPS MEET MY FRIEND LIQUID DEATH FROM BELOW and replaced the blown bulbs in the garden lights, before it got too dark to do anything else.
