Still no squirrels at the flingtoy feeder. Foo.

A couple of weeks ago, I was having a discussion with someone on a mailing list who kept saying that block numbers were 1/16th of a mile apart in King County, whereas I was saying it's 1/20th of a mile, and that I'd measured it, and 1/16th was Snohomish county. He said he'd measured around his house, too, and it had been 1/16th.

It turns out that King County is a mix of both. Eastside areas between the big lakes (Washington and Sammamish) south of the Kenmore and Bothell city limits are mostly 1/16th. (Old downtown Kirkland - the early, nonconforming grid by the water) is also 1/20th. I think it mostly works out to King County being 1/20th per block number except the eastside between the lakes plus the eastward projection of that area, where those areas plotted before and during World War II are 1/20th of a mile, but plotted afterwards is 1/16th of a mile."

This is why Bellevue has no East quadrant roads - roads count down in the NE quadrant, then flip straight to SE, with no E section in between as you find in Seattle, and should (accordingly) find in the eastern projection of that range. It's eaten by the extra space needed to make the block numbers work, and still line up with the roads in Bothell and Kenmore.

Right about here is where I need [livejournal.com profile] pobig's robot icon. ^_^ So here, have a clump of tiny flowers from the front garden.

I've taken a few more flower pictures, too. I'm running low. Roses will be blooming soon, too, so you'll probably get some of those unless I get bored with it.
