So idly...
Dec. 3rd, 2004 11:45 pmAnybody know if neural-net theory AI people working in CS are aware of volume transmission theory (VT, sometimes called NDN, nonsynaptic diffusion neurotransmission) in biologically-based neurology? I'd assume so, of course, but I'm curious. Maybe I'll research that next week. If I were working in CS-style neural-nets, I'd want to be aware. I don't know if there's anything useful to be done with it, but I'm sure I'd want to play with it and find out.
(When I last looked at it, they weren't, but from what I can tell, VT theory was starting to be around but was much less well supported then.)
I feel like I'm absorbing the data from these papers about a zillion times better than I absorbed the information from papers I used to read in Davy's lab when doing the research for my genetics paper there. I wonder if I'm missing a lot more, if I'm just a lot better at reading these things now, and in the latter case, if so, why?
In other news, all the tile came off the windowsill in the box window of the front bedroom at 5038; yay, more work. They used the same junk mastic that they used in the bathroom (mastic breaks down in water and heat, so a shower is the perfect place for it) and in the bedroom, it failed just from the heat alone. Surprise! I'm not sure what to do; I'm tempted by the idea of oak flooring as a replacement, partly because I actually think it'll look good, and partly because it's something I actually know how to do myself. Blah.
And it turned out they did use greenboard in the shower when they put in the tile - they just installed it backwards, rendering it irrelevant. Well done!
Also, I sent off a letter to the HIT lab but don't have an answer yet. It's been suggested that I just pop down there and say hi. I might do that on Monday. It's not like it's far away!
