The more ordinary parts of my life.
I post a lot to my livejournal, but you wouldn't know it if you weren't in any of my filters. Particularly lately, when it's all been stuff that either has to stay restricted, or that I restrict to subgroups as a courtesy. So here's some of the ordinary things that have been going on.
I have a huge need to go around buying a lot of clothes. I know, I know, it's such a cliche, but it's true. I want to make a day of it.
annathepiper,
kathrynt, maybe
poodlgrlif she's interested. (Hiya! ^_^ ) But I did get a belt for the Deerfield dinner next weekend. (I'm wearing the black velvet dress with the cowl neck.) I'm never this dressy - most of my life is spent in T-shirt and shorts - so I need to accessorise! Anyway, it's completely not what I expected to buy - I was looking for a silver snake belt, but instead ended up buying this beaded belt - faceted, black Italian stone beads, and the way it catches the light is really just nice. Anna thought it looked really nice, so I think it'll go over well.
The Junior Senior CD got here; Move Your Feet is, of course, the best song on it. But some of the other tracks have some fun too. All the songs are in English, so they're really aiming for the UK market. (Not the US, apparently. Not yet, anyway.) Presumably, they'll eventually decide to pick a "sound" of some sort, rather than stealing a dozen different years and doing their own versions. I'm currently listening to their version of 1964!
Okay, that's not entirely fair, but so far they're in the "steal" mode and not enough into the "interpret" phrase, when it comes to musical sources. And that has its funny moments.
I've become a complete pho addict.
kathrynt told me that the broth is supercharged with protean, and that's what I love the most, so I suspect that's a direct relationship. I've always been protean-starved - it's a metabolic thing. On the good side: I'll never have to worry about my cholesterol and my blood pressure. On the bad side: I have to eat meat or I'll die because there are two amino acidis I need that my body can't make itself. In other words, there are two extra essential acids for me. It's kind of annoying, but since I like things like Pho, I don't mind.
I don't know what I'm going to do when we move. I'm going to have to take the bus here at least twice a week to eat at Tuan Brothers. It's just so good.
Ah, we've just moved into... 1985. Wham! definitely would have taken this song to the UK Top 10.
And singing. My lesson yesterday went great and I got my official orders that it's time to buy my own copy of The Book, which is to say, 26 Italian Songs and Arias, "medium high" edition. (Actually, she wanted me to get the "medium" edition, but they don't make that now. "medium low" (1st alto) and "medium high" (2nd soprano), they have. I'm actually an alto, but I've got a decent amount of headroom so between the two, she said to get the higher one. Particularly since I'm interested in improving that part of my range. The highest-ranging song in this edition only leaves me about a third from the current top of my range, but I want all those notes, so that's good. ^_^
And now we're visiting 1979!
And wow, are we visiting 1979. The B-52s chart this one.
Anyway. Other than that, I've been really lame. Neighbourhood stuff, lots of research that I can't talk about in an open post, lots of other work that is sadly almost completely... more about staying in place or dealing with temporary things (say, the move) than it is stuff that I want to move forward - like my sculpture, in particular.
Gah! It's late. Well, it's not really late, but I'm tired anyway. Time to post this and go to BED.

Date: 2003-02-23 09:58 am (UTC)There is a place close by that does some decent pho (although you need to put some plum sauce in it to taste just right) but they do some other dishes that are delish, like lemongrass beef on rice or noodles. Very nice when I want an alternative.
There is also Pho 75 that is only pho and is always good.
Actually, there are a ton of pho places around here. You should come visit. ^_-
Dang, I think I'll have to get folks out to some pho today now.
"Hi, I'm a big loser!"
