…asks Rebecca Solnit at The Guardian, and it’s a really goddamn good question. The answer is that the press have collectively fallen into 2016 mode all over again. And that’s why you need to be getting to your family and friends to keep them from falling back into it too.

I mean, MAGA have certainly trained the press well, though frankly a lot of that has to do with their absolute willingness to be trained. But the New York Times having a fascist Republican who votes every single election lie in print about not voting while telling other people not to vote – an instruction only centrists, liberals, and the left would even briefly consider – is so far above and beyond that it’s impossible to deny that they are firmly now a member of Team Trump.

The media are also ignoring the absolute reality that Trump – also very old – had a terrible debate made up entirely of lies in every response, and all the reality of all of Old Man Trump’s slides into not just word salad but actual nonsense and incomprehensibility.

So it’s up to us – you, me, everyone else we can reach – to carry the torch of reality through this mass failure of the fourth estate. There’s no time to waste entertaining the meida’s bullshit; we have a lot of work to do.

In particular, we need to tell them what they need to know.

They need to know Trump and his campaign are hip-deep in the monstrous Project 2025, his easily-disproved lies about “not knowing anything about it” be damned. Here’s all the proof you need and more, updated just today.

They need to know that MAGA candidates are calling for mass killings and deaths.

They need to know that his own allies say Trump will use his new immunity from the law to extract revenge upon everyone who has ever opposed him. Hell, he’s been promising it his entire campaign!

They need to know that Trump wants to murder protesters, and said so outright.

They need to know that it’s not even “just” abortion, they also want to end birth control.

So get to your family and friends. If they’re low-info voters, get them informed, and keep them informed, because they won’t do it and the media won’t either. If they’re Trumpy, or Trump-leaning, plant those seeds of doubt, water them, and help them grow. It may not change their vote, but it can mute their activism, and right now every little bit helps.

Everyone has to know that this time, it really is for all the marbles. This time, it’s actually for reals.
