Mercer Island as reflected on the Bike Megamap, on which the island is made by combining parts of three separate maps.

Every time I look at the megamap and notice Mercer Island again – which I had to stitch together from three separate maps – it’s funnier to me.

Bellevue sees an interstate, a park-and-ride, and a tiiiiiny bit that they care to include. King County sees a couple of parks. And Seattle sees a fast blank field, with only an interstate crossing it.

That’s so desperately… accurate, really? And to me, that’s hilarious, even if nobody else seems to get it.

There is stuff here, but until they get the light rail working across the lake, it's probably moot from your point of view. Well okay, W.Mercer and E.Mercer Way are a very popular route (and mostly flat) route around the island with lots of nice lake views, even if they're not explicitly designated as bike paths (there is traffic to dodge.)

(I did once try crossing the lake via the I-90 bike path, and let me tell you: It was clearly designed by somebody who'd never ridden a bicycle. Goes up and down and up and down ... which is completely stupid because that whole Lid Thing is artificial; they had complete control over what the terrain was going to be and they did that. [Fortunately there's North Mercer Way.]

.... completely unlike the Sammamish and Burke-Gillman trails wherein I'd start out from the center of Redmond and suddenly find myself in the University district without even breaking a sweat.)
