Fascism Watch for January 13, 2024: Pot-pourri

I’m pretty far behind again so this is a pot-pourri, a linkpost sorted by goals of the right as topics, of collected news stories from the last week.

They want women to die if they aren’t good at making babies (presumably for Jesus):

• The Supreme Court Will Decide if States Can Force Hospitals to Let Women Die
• Republican Officials Openly Insult Women Nearly Killed by Abortion Bans
• Kellyanne Conway is selling the GOP a dream that’s destined to backfire
• Donald Trump claims credit for ‘miracle’ of overturning right to abortion (as evangelicals demand more)
• The new Evangelical MAGA line no longer pretends men should have sexual restraint, saying “sex is good when straight men have it” but “women who have sex have no rights.”

They want political violence from the very top…

• Trump team argues assassination of rivals is covered by presidential immunity
• Trump again vows to be a day-one ‘dictator’ in Iowa town hall
• Governor Says Texas Isn’t Shooting Migrants Because Biden Would ‘Charge Us With Murder’ (see also: The Texas National Guard has seized control of Shelby Park in Eagle Pass, Texas, and is denying U.S. Border Patrol agents access to the area)
• Roger Stone Spoke With Cop Pal About Assassinating Eric Swalwell and Jerry Nadler (and as you might expect following Stone’s denials, yeah, there are recordings)

…and lower down, on the ground:

• Special counsel Jack Smith was targeted by attempted swatting on Christmas Day
• Violent political threats surge as 2024 begins, haunting American democracy

They want Christian Authoritarianism:

• Trump just promised an authoritarian ‘task force’ to impose Christian ideology
• The Houston Chronicle: Texas theocrats are a home-grown threat to American democracy
• Trump, the ‘religious right’ and white Christian nationalism

They absolutely want people to shut the fuck up and do what they’re told, particularly when it comes to any discussion of racism or homophobia:

• X Purges Prominent Journalists, Leftists With No Explanation (yes, again)
• The Texas Historical Commission removed books on slavery from plantation site gift shops
• Teaching BLM movement optional in updated AP African American studies class

• Cop Conducts Search for ‘Gender Queer’ Book in Eighth-Grade Classroom
• It’s happening again, Alabama: LGBTQ history edition

And they really, really, really want to fuck up the queers:

• Indiana Republicans have file HB 1291 with the intent to end gay marriage in Indiana
• Florida bill: Targets LGBTQ+ content as felony “grooming” which echos Russia’s “gay propaganda” laws – this is exactly where and how they started
• Efforts to restrict transgender health care endure in 2024, with more adults targeted
• WHO Transgender Health Committee Politicized by Anti-Trans Activists Seeking to Derail New Guidelines
• Ohio House votes to overturn governor’s veto of transgender health care ban, athlete restrictions
• 17 Republican AGs demand Supreme Court take up case about forcing schools to out trans kids (and remember what I just posted)
• Fox News Casts Aspersions on CA Medical Care for Undocumented by Invoking Transition Treatments
• Ohio’s Republican Governor Seeks Harsh New Restrictions on Adult Transition
• “Flood” of anti-LGBTQ bills shows GOP wants to “eradicate trans people from public life”
• Ohio transgender candidate disqualified for only including legal name, not former name, on petitions
• Republican Fight To Deadname Coworkers With New Bill, by which they mean, introduce a bill to require deadnaming at work.

Basically, I’ve said it long enough that I should be blue in the face by now:

They want Putin’s Russia. That’s why they’re willing to end NATO and betray Ukraine and more.

They want what he has, here, and with themselves in charge.
