Let’s talk what Republicans are doing to education

If you read these regularly, you know that the Republican state government of Texas took over the Houston public school district, because they wanted to, passed a law letting them do, and then did it.

The first stage of the state Republican plan for Houston’s educational system is to eliminate school libraries and turn them into “discipline centres.”

Fuck Libraries, Let’s Put Students In Jail. That’s the Republican philosophy of education in a nutshell, it really is.

Here’s a bunch more hell:

The Tyee has a big article on how the Right plans to rewrite American history. They want to teach that chattel slavery was good for Black people. They’re bringing Prager U – a right-wing propaganda channel masquerading as an educational channel – into the schools to spread far-right disinformation. They want New College stripped of all diversity, inclusiveness, and equity, but they want to add an entire “cancel culture” centre to promote the idea that cishet white Christian men are the real victims of discrimination. They’re suspending faculty who criticise them in any way.

The University of Chicago is offering an intro course on queer scholarship on Christianity, Judaism, and Islam, and naturally, the Republican fash are going batshit over it. They’re similarly going batshit about a schoolteacher transitioning in Wisconsin.

This is what Republicans do – not would do, are doing now – with education where they have control.

This is the Republican plan.
