what kind of fucking lunatics do you have to be to think that having the convenience of things you want and need within 15 minutes of your house is an evil conspiracy to turn the entire world into concentration camps?

A loon who harbours that ambition not so secretly for the people you deem to be your prey-by-right.

People who think the world has always been the way they personally experienced in when they were young, and are convinced that All Change Is Bad, and that Real People Must Drive long distances to get anything, particularly if they've modified their vehicles to belch huge amounts of black smoke.

I don't think they have problems with such places existing, and probably enjoy them very much when on vacation; they have problems with people saying they *need* to exist, because they feel that that opens a box of culture war.

30,000-inhabitant Nicholasville is easily a 15-minute cycling town; where I live, only the government offices and the vet stretch it out to a 30-minute walking town. No, wait, the library is a 45-minute walk away. Still, it's close to a 15-minute town, and no one in this deep red county seems to have a problem with it.

What the actual fuck. I would LOVE if that was the case in most place.

When my parents bought their house when I was an infant, it was literally what they looked for: Walking distance to a stores including a supermarket, a pharmacy, a kosher butcher, a synagogue, an elementary school.

The kosher butcher is no longer there because the neighborhood has changed in the last 60 years, but all the rest are.

I was reading happily, when…

"Long ago, pretty much everyone lived in a 15-minute city because no one had the means to travel farther than a horse or rail car could carry them. Then came the automobile…."

No. People have had disgustingly long commutes before, like 2 mile walks each way because landlords capitalized on "location, location, location!"… for hundreds of years.

That's a weird thing to forget.
