Yet another instance of human sacrifice as a religious practice. I say religious because it's part of the mayors' (or his constituency's, or both) world-view, that the excess deaths are necessary (they aren't) to prevent theft (they won't) and the economic damage that results (none.)

I respond to requests to remove my mask the same way I respond to requests to check my reusable shopping bags - I call out "Oh, no thanks!" and walk off really fast.

This is surprisingly effective, though in cases where it doesn't work I end up having to walk out the door. If store owners don't want my money, well, sucks to be them.

Well, it's literally one (1) step off of criminalising medical masks, so it's not something that you can solve with individual-store boycotts.

I thoroughly disagree. People won't give up going out of their way for one particular chicken sandwich to stop funding extermination of queers, and this is a much bigger ask.

If it doesn't hit them directly, it won't happen - and maybe not even then. So it won't happen.

Ugh, my understanding is that's it's debatable whether there even is a surge in retail crime; data is spotty and of what data exists inflation might be much of the "surge."

I am reminded of something in mid to late 2020 of a sign that went viral, of a female face with a mask half removed, smiling. Text read something like, "Dip your mask for security." They got roasted on social.

It's back.
