Our state is at war with our family, says Rabbi Daniel Bogard in coverage at the Washington Post. His son is trans, and they’re trying to figure out whether and where they’ll have to flee Missouri if and when Republican Senate President Pro Tem Caleb Rowden delivers the promised “big stuff” against “the transgender issue” this session – in other words, making health care for trans kids a crime. Fox News have, of course, lashed out against him.
“It’s not trans genocide if there are no trans people to genocide,” argues the Daily Wire. The “We aren’t depriving anyone of their rights if they don’t exist” line is loooong-standing fundamentalist bad-faith argument, going back to at very least their efforts to keep gays and lesbians illegal entirely. Or as they used to say, “there are no homosexuals, only heterosexual people engaging in perverse acts against nature.” That’s a pretty close paraphrase.
You hear exactly the same line right now from Russian propagandists, arguing that there are no Ukrainians, only “brainwashed” or “nazified” Russians, that the Ukrainian language isn’t real, and so on. Destroying all Ukrainians and wiping out the idea of Ukrainianism isn’t genocide if there are not any actual Ukrainians to genocide.
Same shit, completely unchanged except for targets. Which is why this’ll also go in the Fascism Watch update.
Tennessee’s Republican governor says he will sign the bill banning health care for trans kids. The linked article is mostly about the so-called “drag ban” he’s signing today, but also confirms he’ll sign a bill to trackwreck trans children’s medical care, because he’s an evil motherfucker who wants children to suffer.
I saw this a while ago, but here’s an article about how Twitter anti-LGBT activist and terrorism supporter LibsofTikTok has been brought on to this year’s big CPAC confab as a speaker.
Montana’s first elected transgender representative, Zooey Zephyr (D) speaks out on the Montana House floor about Montana’s impending intentionally-very-loosely-worded “drag” ban, which – in the model of such things – is built to target trans people. You might give it a listen. And the St. Louis Post-Dispatch has an actual well-researched article on the so-called “whistleblower” lies about “forced transitions” at Washington University, with lots of parents talking about the process and their experiences.
Doctors in Texas are struggling how to tell people that they need a medical abortion for their own life or health out of fear of violating Texas’s strident anti-abortion laws. That is, of course, the intent – they’d much rather women die than get a life-saving abortion.
The fundamentalist – now Christian Nationalist – movement have long been against women’s sports as “unfeminine.” Even in the 90s and 2000s they were screaming against Title IX and all its effects. (It’s too manly, you see.) So “Republican Senator Tommy Tuberville will propose denying funding to women’s athletics if they allow trans women to compete” shouldn’t surprise anyone, and most certainly doesn’t surprise me.
They really, really just hate women.
