wordpress is not done being stupid
Feb. 16th, 2023 03:20 amSo hey Lazyweb – I got an answer for my previous question, but here’s another:
How do you make modern WordPress NOT smash all your separate lines and paragraphs together into one hideous pseudo-paragraph on the front page?
Does no one at WordPress think formatting matters anymore? Honestly, it looks like complete garbage. Pics attached.

Who the fuck would want this, ever? I mean, honestly, what the actual fuck. It’s not this theme, it’s every theme I’ve tried. EVEN BETTER: If I don’t put an extra space at the end of single-spaced lines, it takes out the newline and replaces it with NOTHING, cramming words together likethis.

Date: 2023-02-17 06:37 pm (UTC)I think I see what's going on. The most common setup is for the front page to have just the title, one image, and an excerpt (usually the first paragraph; in some places it's called a "snippet preview") for each post, with a "read more" link to the actual post. The excerpt is also what a search engine is supposed to show for the post.
I don't see an obvious way to show the whole post, with formatting, in place of the excerpt. Which means that it probably requires a plugin, if it's even possible.

Date: 2023-02-18 12:12 am (UTC)But I rather like previews on the main page. I'd like to have them. I'd just like to have ones that aren't terrible and don't cram words together like so:
this
should
never
happen
-- becoming --
thisshouldnever happen
Because for one thing, that's violating HTML since 1.0, and for another, it looks godawful. (The only reason you're not seeing words directly smashed together is because I added a space to the end of every single-spaced line to prevent it, which is also very stupid and something I don't want to have to do.)
I've found a couple of answers, which I'll write up ... hopefully this afternoon.
